How to activate multifunction display on a T5.1 with lowline screen?

Im looking at fitting cruise to my 2010 T5.1 and have noticed both on here, and on the Hazzy Days website that MPG, trip etc can be activated on the lowline dash display and controlled using a wiper stalk which has the trip buttons on it.

What I need to know is whether I need to run a wire to power the stalk and one down to the BCM? (as people have had to do in order to get the trip to work when fitting a MFSW)

Has anybody else done this?
Or can anyone PM me a wiring diagram in the hope that I can work it out please?

Many, many thanks

Rich.

Thanks for the reply. I already have a 087 bcm which is cruise capable. I am in the process of fitting the new stalks with the cruise and trip functions. I think I need to run some wires down to the bcm from the trip side of the stalks but dont know which ones go where. There are 3 pins on the new stalks which are currently going to thin air even with the cruise fitted so suspect these probably need connecting to something.
Can anyone help with this?
or
Can anyone pm me a T5.1 wiring diagram?

Thanks
Rich

Yes the 087 bcm or J519 Onboard supply control unit will work fine with the MFD after adding the three wires, just done mine recently and it works great, not finished the cruise yet as other projects need more attention :)

There are three missing wires for the MFD that go from the

F138 - Airbag coil connector and return ring with slip ring (grey multiplug for stalks, ect ect)
to
J285 - Control unit in dash panel (speedo)

Stalk------------------- Speedo

PIN 24 goes to pin 21 (MFA+)
Pin 23 goes to Pin 22 (MFA-)
Pin 18 Goes to Pin 23 (MFA-R)

If fitting a MFSW (Multi Function Steering Wheel) also add

5amp live to pin 9 at the stalk
pin 10 goes to pin 17 (lin bus, white 73 pin connector onboard supply control unit)

Then you need to go into the instrument cluster with VCDS and enable Multi function display (I think its called that :) )

****PLEASE DOULBLE CHECK THE PIN NUMBERS IN THE BIG GREY MULTIPLUG FOR THE STALKS******
There are spaces or blanks which look like holes for the pins and make you misread where the wires need to go..... so take care

I already have a black wire in No23 on the stalk side? Do I piggyback this?

I have fitted a mfsw, if I add the 5 wires mentioned In the above message and get it coded will the steering wheel buttons then operate the mfd or do I need the stalk with the trip button on the end. Also does anyone know if adding these wires to the lin make the radio functions from the steering wheel work?

No you don't need a stalk with the Mulifunction buttons on..... if you did have them fitted and pressed the buttons on the stalk this would over rule the MFSW buttons ( i.e. stop working) untill next time you recycle the ignition.

yes the MFSW would operate the radio volume & forward and back track/ radio station.

you also need to acitvate the multifunction display under instrument cluster to see the MPG ect.ect. on the speedo.

12v

think I might of read the wiring diagram and sure it showed from a 5amp fuse.

I know I used an ignition live (12v when dash lights are on) if you don't the steering wheel will be illuminated all the time.
(which you don't want)

There is a wire that stays live untill the key is removed located at the fuse box ( can't remember colour, people use this for keeping the radio on untill key is taken out) you could use this aswell.

ok you have enabled the multifunction display also? and double checked the correct wires are in the correct pins easy to get wrong if all your wires are yellow repair wires.

Does your horn work?
Airbag light goes out?

there is two steering wheel wiring harness's for the MFSW one connects in the middle of the steering wheel the other is a black plug on one side of the buttons which do you have?

I would next check on the pins going through the slip ring.

making sure from the MFSW plug in the steering wheel they are making contact with the harness from the steering wheel.
is there a connection through your slipring?

Have you got the MFD button on the end of the stalk?
if you have, do not press this button when trying to get the mfsw buttons to work as it overides the signal
untill the vehicle is powered down and back up.

Yes I have coded both the multifuction display in Instruments 17 and the multifuction steering wheel in Central Electrics 09.

I will check again the repair wires but sure there are correct!

Horn working..... lights on MFSW button light when lights are put on...... no airbag lights or fault codes.

I have the wiring harness which is a black multi plug to the side of the steering wheel and this is connected as at first the horn wasn't working and found that the connector was push in correctly.... but is now.

The left hand buttons are working with the radio which if there was a fault with the wiring or connection wouldn't work????

I have fitted cruise control which is working fine and have no button on the end of wiper stalk.

BUT STILL NO MFD!?"?":*

Everything sounds like it should

it could be that the three wires you added for the MFD

Stalk------------------- Speedo

PIN 24 goes to pin 21 (MFA+)
Pin 23 goes to Pin 22 (MFA-)
Pin 18 Goes to Pin 23 (MFA-R)

is not connected to anything in the stalk (is there any pins in the stalk)
need to check for connection.

I have the same BCM version as you and I can't get the rhs MFSW switches to work. I know the MFD works because I do have the call up switches on my wiper stalk and they work. Have tried with a wiper stalk with no call up switches, removed the three MFD wires and no difference, the RHS switches on the MFSW will not control the MFD for me. You have seen my other thread on this it has more info.

I don't know why its like this but suspect its a software problem with the BCM or instrument cluster. Could be a coincidence but the Polo uses the same BCM and it comes with a MFSW with switches on the LHS only.

if I get time tomorrow will check what's part numbers on the speedo and BCM.
did mine back in june so not fresh in the head.

thinking about it I did remove a wire on the MFSW harness because on the diagram it was not fitted
from the factory if the MFSW was used. only there for the horn on normal steering wheel.

see here post 4

http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=290287

the other guy captain Beaky did not remove his and said all things were ok but don't know if his MFD works.
