![]() The basic idea is the time spent moaning about the name and shame policy could be better spent praising good work. That, coupled with people actually taking the time to research and ask questions before parting with their cash would cure the problem in most cases. I don't agree with the no name and shame and i know i have the odd moan (usually tongue in cheek) but i understand and accept the reasons given every time it comes up. Im pretty sure at least half of the people that go on about it just like to argue. |

Fact is we live in a small community...lets say Andy at ACJ has a bad day or lets someone else do his work which turns out bad...the guy gets the hump and splurges it all over the forum in a really bitter and twisted in-depth allegation on his thread...that would be a travesty right?...we all know Andy's a top bloke..he must have just had a bad day and this new guy should wind his neck in...But that thread could crash AJC conversions really. I've seen it happen and it nearly happened with the last "Beware" thread when lots and lots of people assumed it was a firm which it wasn't. In actual fact the firm involved on that thread ARE an otherwise blemish free and praiseworthy firm with MANY satisfied customers. Fact is on that occasion there was a clash of personalities and some really bad communication which led to a transaction that went horribly wrong. It's never clear cut but to allow the membership to "round up" on the basis of an allegation that has only one side to it is wrong and doesn't sit comfortably with me.
There are other reasons - but this is one of the main ones. Like you say - half the people who moan about it just like to jump on the bandwagon - the other half don't have much to contribute other than to be vultures at the side of the road when there's some easy pickings and they can feel all sanctimonious without retribution.

like i said, its frustrating, but i accept the above reasons.
This is why people should ask for opinions with negative ones going via PM. In the above case, people can find plenty of threads about andy, and people will post up good experiences on the thread. But that one person will PM the op and they can make their decision based on that. It also wouldn't hurt in some cases to approach the company about a negative experience. I would have thought any genuine trader would be more than happy to explain their side of the story via PM or on the phone if you asked them. I dont know mate. I think people are lazy. Its easier to put up a thread and get positive and negative responses than it is to actually spend the time asking questions, searching and making phonecalls. Or here's a suggestion, ring the company and ask if you can call in for a chat and to get an idea about what they do. It's like these people that say they wont buy a car off ebay cos its full of scammers. it's just another for of advertising. If you buy a car based on some pictures and a write up then you deserve all you get. Go and look at the car and get a feel for the owner. Then make your mind up. Im ranting now. never mind. The rules aren't going to change. Some people will do their research and be happy with the work. Others won't and will get ripped off. Either way it's not the forum's responsibility |

I think that if the forum "FAQ" included the point that mods should have first shout at the classifieds as some form of recognition of their work on here would shut the disgruntled jealous parties up. I also think that those tight Yorkshire-men who regularly help in the engine section should get the ability to edit their posts if they accidentally make a boo boo without having to fork out £10 for the privilege of helping others. ![]() I'll scuttle back under my ferret cage now.
