Surf Board Roof Rack Brackets

Hi,

Have a 1998 T4 Hi top on which I want to carry surfboard. Have looked through all past discussions which tend to involve J Bars being fixed to exterior which isn't ideal due to the fact they would be fixed to the non structural hi top and involve a permanent fittings.

So, was wondering about strapping the board to the side of the hitop part using a soft roof rack system or just normal strapping. Would need four roof rack brackets to fix to the "gutter"with each one having a space to thread the strap through. Each strap then goes around the surfboard and over the top to be fixed to other roof rack bracket so to hold the board tight to the hi top side.

Any thoughts on if this is feasible/safe and secondly any ideas where to get those sorts of brackets from??
