Have travelled to France many times and used most of the available routes. With the additional but essential security checks the tunnel times are now equivalent to that of the Ferries.

We now use P&O and book the lounge facility with free tea/coffee, snacks and comfy seats.

Travel on Saturdays if you can as the number of trucks are less on a Saturday.

We've just booked with dfds seaways dover to Dunkirk, return for 211 with a trailer. Chunnel was double that.

Further to my last

If you intend to use the motorways it is worthwhile getting a TAG reader for the tolls

If you intend to use the A roads get a decent map and navigate - usually much quicker

Use the municipal campsites

Stuck for WIFI - find a Macdonalds and park outside

Thanks Guys Via Dover it is then. As already said we've had a Tag for the tolls for a few years and they are so much better than looking for change and far quicker at the booths too.

Tunnel is only cheaper if you aren't towing anything.

dover dunkirk last year, didn't even see a migrant, although I didn't fancy the queue in Dover going the other direction when we arrived back (the day the extra security was put on)
