Re: Biking in France
Le Porge Ocean is a great campsite right on the Atlantic coast near Bordeaux. There is a fantastic cycle path that runs the full length of the Atlantic coast. In that area it runs from Cap Ferret (a peninsula) up to Soulac-sur-Mer (the mouth of a big river). This is plenty of riding for most, but if you wanted to go further up or down the coast you'd need to go inland quite a bit. You actually have to cross the cycle path to get to the beach from the campsite. The cycle path passes through some beautiful countryside, sometimes coastal pine forests, sometimes agricultural pastures, some small towns and some holiday resorts. There are regular places you could stop off for meals or refreshments, and if ever you feel like a dip in the ocean, or a fresh water lake, you're never too far from one wherever you may be along the cycle path. If, like me, you need to do a circular ride (as opposed to coming back on the same path) there are many cycle-friendly roads you can use in the area. It's pretty flat in that part of France, so pretty easy going. The campsite is one of the cleanest, best organised and best located ones I've come across in my worldly travels.
