Cool Dover Calais?

Hi Guys just looking at our Ferry crossings for 2017 and wondered if anyone has any thoughts on the Dover/Calais route. We had a really bad experience 3 years ago with people climbing on the van and have gone via Portsmouth since but struggling to justify the 800 price difference they want this year.

Thanks

Jim

I'm guessing you're talking about migrant, as I understand it they have removed the camp now so there are far fewer about. I went past in 2015 and didn't see a single person, though that was for the tunnel.

The other option is Dover-Dunkirk, just as cheap and very little hassle that I know of.

Thanks Guys

Currently we're looking for sites and will be in France for nearly three weeks so have plenty of time for travel.

Yep migrants. There was a mini riot at the time with police using gas and battens. Fairly scary to be honest and don't want to go through it again.

Have travelled to France many times and used most of the available routes. With the additional but essential security checks the tunnel times are now equivalent to that of the Ferries.

We now use P&O and book the lounge facility with free tea/coffee, snacks and comfy seats.

Travel on Saturdays if you can as the number of trucks are less on a Saturday.

Further to my last

If you intend to use the motorways it is worthwhile getting a TAG reader for the tolls

If you intend to use the A roads get a decent map and navigate - usually much quicker

Use the municipal campsites

Stuck for WIFI - find a Macdonalds and park outside

Thanks Guys Via Dover it is then. As already said we've had a Tag for the tolls for a few years and they are so much better than looking for change and far quicker at the booths too.
