T5 Post Icon Re: To wave or not to wave

So i've just come across this post, and i apologise to the couple people in the torbay area who wave or lifted a finger (not in a bad way)at me idid't know it was a thing, my missus would say who's that and i'd say not sure just thinking it was someone local who's seen me around, so if you're on here and read this I'm the one in the beige shuttle and now i know i'll wave back theres also a lady in an old beetle who waves at me and i thought it was just because she's seen me walk past he house a few times, i do wave back to her

One of my old friends has a T4, and few years back, I saw her wave at random vans driving back to home(I was a passenger, and I didn't know anything about vans at the time, let alone a T4). I said oh who are you waving to? And she told me about the wave code amongst T4 owners.

Few years later, we now have a T4 ourselves and we've inherited the wave code. We got so excited when we got our first wave back from a fellow T4 (after five failed encounters). Since then we've been on a lookout (I'm teaching my wife the difference between T4 and T5 / T6) but we started wondering about the following:
  • Are T4s generally more willing to wave fellow T4s because we are "dying breed" and current T4 owners are likely to be enthusiasts and less likely a builder anymore or non-enthusiasts (where as T5s and T6s are still a "common commercial vehicle" compared to T4s)
  • Do you wave at T4 that's on the other side of a motorway or dual carriage way and too far away / fast to notice drivers?
  • Do you wave at T4 that's over taking you on a motorway?
  • What about other Ts: T2, T25, T5, T6?
  • And what about the Beetles and all the other VWs?
  • Caddy's, Doka's (mind, I've never seen a Doka yet)
  • Well, VAG car (yes, including Audi)?
  • Heck any van, any car?!

Our conclusions were:
  1. Safety first: don't get too distracted spotting T4 or "wavers"
  2. Wave if we get waved by fellow drivers.
  3. And generally be kind and smile at other fellow road users!

We haven't paid attention to non T4 transporters, but I agree, we are all the same. So we shall wave indiscriminately and spread love & peace.

Happy motoring!
