Default Recommend me a sat nav

As per the title really. Off to France in summer and want to get a sat nav that will help us navigate around. Up until now have always used via michellen but biting the bullet as want to do a bit of travelling around.

Don't really travel that far in the uk so am after a unit that will be really good abroad more than something for the uk. Loads to choose from so hoping someone can recommend me one they know works well in France.

Thanks

I have been using TomTom from the start and still do.

I do like one that is stand alone from a phone but I also have Waze on the phone.

Travel extensively around Europe but not much in France.

Thanks nicklouse. Looking at the tom tom 5100 or 6100. Looks fit for purpose.

Any Garmin 100 is enough to pay, lifetime quarterly map updates, all of Europe fits on the internal hard disc

Turn off speed camera alerts in France

All I will say go fir one that has free updates for the maps. Most do now.

Having one on your phone can seem to be convenient, but then your phone shuts down due to over heating...... Happened to me a few time in the car with AC in Germany.

One thing to consider is the batteries in most are not great so you will be plugged in to the 12v and if they need Bluetooth connection to a phone for traffic updates.

Had an old TomTom without updates and buying a replacement was cheaper than paying for updates - got a TomTom Start 25 from Halfords for 89 that has UK and all Western Europe on it. Works a treat! We use it for the local roads when we get near a destination here, France, Germany, Denmark, Spain.

I have a Garmin Europe one. Done us great over the summer; super easy to use and you can specify certain routes and stuff. Free map updates too. Think it was about 120.
