Default Vehicle tax ambiguity.

After a couple of scale stories in the press and on't radio, I thought I'd find out when my vehicle tax is due. Eventually, this is what I got.

Tax/SORN status
Your vehicle will be taxed from 01 December 2016 Are you aware that your vehicle's current tax is not due to expire until 01 August 2017?
However, if you have been told to tax by DVLA, please continue with the transaction.

Does this mean my tax expires on the 01 August 2017? If I was aware, I wouldn't be fighting my way through D.V.L.A.s serpentine website to find out now would I !

Cheers, Tony.

This is the most direct DVLA page I'm aware of:

https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk

Just put your reg. number and make (only Volkswagen, rather than VW, will do) and it'll load a page with your van's details on it showing, amongst other things, when your current tax and MOT run out at the top of the page.

Hope that helps and have a good Christmas, Tony

Cheers,

Strim

That is the page I used initially, but the message "No vehicle information is available". So I tried another route.

Cheers, Tony.

It seems to have a problem with older registration numbers and didn't recognise my old Guzzi, either
