Cool Dover Calais?

Hi Guys just looking at our Ferry crossings for 2017 and wondered if anyone has any thoughts on the Dover/Calais route. We had a really bad experience 3 years ago with people climbing on the van and have gone via Portsmouth since but struggling to justify the 800 price difference they want this year.

Thanks

Jim

I'm guessing you're talking about migrant, as I understand it they have removed the camp now so there are far fewer about. I went past in 2015 and didn't see a single person, though that was for the tunnel.

The other option is Dover-Dunkirk, just as cheap and very little hassle that I know of.

Thanks Guys

Currently we're looking for sites and will be in France for nearly three weeks so have plenty of time for travel.

Yep migrants. There was a mini riot at the time with police using gas and battens. Fairly scary to be honest and don't want to go through it again.

Been about 4 or 5 times Dover to Dunkirk in the last couple of years never seen or experienced any bother what so ever.

I drive to and from the French Alps a few times a year. I now always use the Dover-Calais ferries and have not had any problems to date.

I find the ferries much more relaxing and far better priced than the Channel Tunnel. I tried the Tunnel a few times, but got fed up with their delays during high season. You pay a premium price (usually double) to do the journey in 35 minutes instead of the 90 minutes the ferries take, but I have at times spent 3 hours waiting to board the train. They're very quick to charge you extra if you miss your reserved crossing, but if they miss your reserved crossing, they don't so much as offer you an apology.

I always find getting on the ferry easy, go upstairs and have a full English breakfast and a cuppa, have a wander around the boat and then it's about time to go back to the van.

Much more relaxed.

Been going for past 10 years all at various times of the year/months/times to Dover/Calais/eurotunnel 3-6 times a year and never once had any problem !!
Only ever heard of a couple of German motorhomes being robbed at the Calais aire !!
