Sprayed my bumpers mat black and removed the side decals using the old hair dryer ploy. Worked a treat

Booked the new to me '02 Velle in for MoT on 10th March. Thinking about the re-test already.
Talk about a pessimist! Only £30.50, wot a bargain.

Asked chief tester guy a couple of questions:-

(i) if a diesel T4/T5, which has a Cat fitted as standard and is subject to a sight test only, has the Cat removed by e.g., fitting of a straight through performance pipe then it would fail because it had no Cat fitted. If, however, it had a bulge that looked like like a Cat, but was actually empty, then the tester couldn't establish that the Cat wasn't there then it would get an MoT provided everything else was O.K.

(ii) I think this next problem affected Bottom Rung at NCT, (Republic of Ireland version of MoT). The outside seat of the middle row was removed leaving the centre seat, lap-belt only, effectively to the outside. A certificate was refused because the tester maintained that as it was now an outside seat it needed to be lap and diagonal. My N.I. tester man said it didn't matter as long as it was as fitted by manufacturer and the belt was in functioning order.

I agree with both these points. Even if only a sight test a Cat must be fitted it that's the way Volkswagen sent it out of the factory.

Picked up some new washer jets and some clips for the Velle.

Dunno Squire. Personally speaking, I wouldn't take my advice on anything and I know me better than most.

What about a straight through with a cat shaped bulge?

We have a straight pipe and it's been through fine. I guess it's a case of if you don't point it out to them then they'll not notice.
