This isn't my tatoo. It belongs to my best buddy, and there's a bit of a tale to it.

This time last year he was undergoing treatment for colon cancer. He had a large tumour blocking the bowel, another in his abdomen, and a third inside his navel. They operated and removed the tumours together with 20cm of his colon. He began to recover, but then the stitched colon began to die back. They had to open him again and remove another 20 cm. He only just avoided the need for a colostomy bag. He then went through months of gruelling chemo which has left him with little or no feeling in the tips of his fingers, and in his feet. When I visited him in the summer, the furthest he'd ventured from home, in nearly a year, was across to the newsagent. He has a T4. He and I spent a lovely 2 weeks - he showed me all the local sights, and we drove all over the place in his van. It was him and his van that inspired me to get mine.
Just before I left, we all went with him to the tattoo parlour. He had designed his own tattoo - a way of humourising the results of his operations - a rotund tummy [they'd cut through all the muscles] and a rather large scar. Rather than a zip, he'd designed a tattoo which shows some of the scar being sewn up. He couldn't wait to show his surgeon. LOL!
This photgraph was taken just after the tattoo was done. He's since revisited to have it tidied up a bit and the finer details added. I hope you like it as much as he does!
