T4 Post Icon Engine stalling and cutting out!!!!!

Hi
I am a newbie to T4's, I have only had her for about 6 weeks and have totally fallen, along with the bank account... and the interior has been moving along nicely.

She has been a delight until last Friday...

Took her up the M1 and parked up for 1/2hr, came back and she was reluctant to start. Eventually she started and drove fine, UNTIL coming off the M1 she stalled at the junction. Then every time we slowed down and dropped the revs she stalled.

Now she is reluctant to start whether warm or cold, and stalls when revs are dropped.

Have taken her to our mechanic, but he is not use to VW vans, was at a lost. He could find no leaks or anything obvious...she did develop a POP when she is revved. He suggested it might be something with the EGR?? But could not be certain...he's going to have a proper look at her on Sunday but as good as he has always been I know he's 'stabbing' in the dark.

HELP...

I know nothing about the engine, but any suggestions I can pass on will be greatly appreciated.

By the way she is a 2001 1.9td.

A hopeful
Rachel

Erm.... why?....like what?

You need to check the fuel filter and air filter for restrictions, that would be a good start.
Usually when these thing happen suddenly it is a fuel starvation problem due to a blocked filter/system.
After that, i would check out the pump. And find a professional VW van mechanic, these vans often seem to stump normal mechanics.
If he is worried about the EGR (like i said, why is beyond me?) it will cost you all of 2 for a blanking plate to disable it.

Thanks for your response. It is booked in for the weekend, fingers crossed she will be sorted out.
She's too bad to drive, so missing using her.
Waved at a T4 from our Mondeo got a very strange look...

Hi Djatty, sorry to hear that...frustrating I know!
I will post what does solves the problem as soon as it's solved

I cleaned the EGR, anyway, a dirty job and it has made no real difference to the stalling, but does start a little easier than it did

Have you got fuel going through the fuel line into the pump? Have you tried to change the fuel filter?
I have had the same problem and the RAC man said I had a airlock runs fine now

Rac man just took the pipes off the fuel filter and turned the engine over and then put them back on. I was stood watching thinking that's never going to work but it did was just happy fuel pump was ok as had half a tank of veggie oil and thought i killed it.
