T5 Post Icon Engine repairs T5 2500 AXD

Hi Guys my T5 engine has developed a smoking and misfiring problem especially when cold - the engine has only done 58,000 miles and generally runs well and smoothly, except when cold. She is not using much oil(1/3 ltr over 1000 miles) we are not loosing any coolant. My local garage was going to do some diagnostics work on it, but had a problem getting one of the glow plugs out - so it may just need a new glow plug, but because the head will need to come off to drill this out he has recommended that I send the engine to a specialist engine repairer.
Can anyone recommend a good VW engine repair specialist?
Many thanks ManxMike

I think I would find another garage to be honest. Don't know much about these 5 pots but surely they can get a stuck glow plug out???
If it's only doing it when cold I would agree that the glow plug wouldn't help it's cold running problems.

Have you not got a VW garage on the Island.

Thanks Crock. I am happy with the work done by the garage and his advice to send the engine to a specialsit is probably the correct advice in my case. It is a worrying time when you don't know whether to expect a 1K or 5K bill

See if you have a Thread Doctor nearby, they're specialists in removing stuck injectors/glow plugs as well as sheared bolts.

Thanks - I took the engine to Motivation on the Isle of Man, who removed the stuck heater plug. They also found the cause of my smoking problems, but it was not good news. New block required. - see my other post on smoking engine for the full story.
