relay numbers and positions

I am trying to put together a comprehensive relay position and numbers guide. Please everyone help and i will compile it in a tech doc. Here is what I have so far.

Position is the number on the panel and the relay number is in brackets. Counting from left to right.

Relay locations on fuse/relay panel
1 Fresh air blower relay (105)
A/C relay (140)
Relay for climatronic (140)
2 Rear window wiper/washer relay (72 or 174)
3 Not used
4 Load reduction relay (18)
5 Not used
6 Emergency flasher relay (21)
7 Headlight washer system relay (95)
8 Programmable washer/wiper intermittent relay (99)
9 Warning buzzer for parking light (36)
10 Fog light relay (53)
11 Busbar for horn
dual horn relay (53)
12 Fuel pump (FP) relay (167)
Glow plug relay (102)or (103)

Seat belt warning system relay (49)
Idle boost relay (125)
Relay for A/C shutoff (147)
Idle air control (IAC) control module (155)
Load reduction relay II

Hi Dave,

Are you sure?

There are at least two different fusebox/relay board types that I know about, I'm fairly certain they changed about the same time they changed the dashes from white to blue.

Granted the relays may be located in the same position on both types, I've never taken notice of relay positions.

Trev your probably right but the info i got this from was generic, no year specified Mate. :ILU:

The idea of this post was to get input like this, so if anyone had more info on relays etc let us know and I add it.

Hey finally some info on relays T: I've just bought a `92 t4 and I don't have working wipers or headlights. I've got sidelights though!

Looking through your list I might well be a few missing

Are they readily available from motor shops etc. or are they a bit rare ?

hi i need a rear fog relay for my 95 t4 its no 53 according to your info but its no 204 according to the ebay sellers - very confused anyone help with this please thanks

I have a 1.9 ABL and the relay in pos 12 glow plug is a 104 ??????

Is this correct as list above states 102/103 and I have a 102 and it has 2 vary large 2 large and 3 small terminals where as the 104 only has 2 vary large 1 large and 1 small terminal

Found this thread while looking for relay help (see Wiper woes) so hers my info. on the relays in my van -

1995 caravelle , 1.9. 1x engine.

RELAYS.

1 -99 intermitant wipers ?

4-18

7-72

10- black block with gray wire dissapearing under dash

12 - 104

Top left above relay 99 is a big relay seperate from rest , no. 137.

Apart from 99 which ive been told is for intermitant wipers and wipers on wash I do not know what the other relays control and would be grateful for any info as to what they control and if my set up matches any vans out there.

it is position no. 3 and the relay number 109 will be read up-side down.

mine is 1997 Caravelle, likely the very first batch of TDI. it is 75kW or 102bhp
