As we have all seen VW have done a big media launch of their new T6...... but is it A T6?
in the past when vw have released a new generation of vans it has been a total redesign of the previous generation however the new T6 is just a facelift...... of a facelift :* surely this is just a T5.2 but what is your take on this?

To be honest it looks good but I'm very disappointed too. Been saving my pennies like you with the intention of getting one next year.
Can't believe I'm about to talk T7 when the T6 isn't even out but I've heard rumours that the 2020 release of the T7 will actually be in 2 years time so maybe keep saving for a bit longer!!

Vw made it clear that this would not be an all new transporter a while back,.

Had it not been for the GP, this may of been better accepted i guess.

The major changes are engine line up and dash board, whilst the dash is nice it isnt really suited to the commercial world, maybe this is a clue :*

Definitely a face lift 5.1 1/2
Look at the bright side most of the parts will remain the same so vw will need to keep looking at any design issues they have
Ie
steering column
DFM
Leaking windows which I think they have solved with the 2015 windows
Water pump
Sprayed properly under bonnet and with out orange peel effect
And any other items other Pepole can think of

Any way I herd the T7 is going retro and having a split screen type front
The main reason is vw quality control have decided that you won't be able to tell if it is an old van or new van that has broken down so they can make them with Cheeper parts and break down just like a t2

Use it enjoy it as there is always some thing new and better than yours

Personally, I feel that if the vehicle suits your purpose then it does not matter how old, new or up to date it is.

I often deliver to a supermarket in Belgravia (where you can smell the money) & am amazed at the number of old cars you see - admittedly expensive when new, but well kept - Pagoda Mercs, 6 Series Beemers (the originals), all manner of older Mercs & Beemers, so it does not seem to matter to those with "old money".

Is the latest mk7 golf just a re-nosed and styled mk6? Probably.

I guess it must make financial sense to just re-tool a few parts like wings, bonnet, tailgate, dash, lights etc. and bolt in a new engine range, rather than the millions required in R&D, tooling and re-engineering an entire production line for a completely new model.

Take a look at VW's current 'A5' platform:

Audi A3 Mk2 (8P), Audi TT Mk2 (8J)[1], Volkswagen Touran (1T), Volkswagen Caddy (2K), SEAT Altea (5P), Volkswagen Golf Mk5 / GTI / R32 / Rabbit Mk5 (1K), Ĺ koda Octavia Mk2 (1Z), Volkswagen Golf Plus (5M), SEAT Toledo Mk3 (5P), Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 (1K), SEAT LeĂłn Mk2 (1P), Volkswagen Tiguan (5N), Volkswagen Scirocco (13), Volkswagen Golf Mk6 (5K), Ĺ koda Yeti (5L), Volkswagen Jetta Mk6 (1K), (16), Audi Q3 (8U), Volkswagen Beetle (16), Volkswagen Eos

...all technically the same vehicle underneath.

It's quite easy to roll out the "lazy designers" line, but I would hazard a guess that they have been working to a brief where budget constraints have been at the forefront.

Lets not forget they tweaked the split, bay, wedge and T4 several times along their lifespans. I guess they've called this one the 'all new' T6 because T5.2 sounds a bit rubbish I:

There's no way that's "all new". The doors and glasshouse are all carryover, the seats and rails clearly are too. I'd hazard a guess that the floor pan will be nigh on the same. I don't mind what they've done, its progress, but personally (as a engineer who used to work in the VW group) I find it a little cheeky.

I like it - if a full redesign had meant something like the new transit with its f'ugly grille and high rear window line then I'm glad VW didn't go down that road.

The T5 is a great looking van with a great layout, and VW are very adept at evolving new models rather than big redesigns, especially when they have a good original like the Golf and I feel the T5/5.1 is a also good base that provides a platform for the next few years.

From what I understand there is a lot new under the skin, but for us T5 owners it's nice that you can see the carry over so our vans will not immediately feel outdated. Not the case with the transit or traffic or vito...as all of those were looking pretty outdated and so have been redesigned in a very trendy but ugly way, while the T5 shape and layout can still hold its own.
