Espace Seats into my LWB

I needed to add some rear seats into the back for the kids. i wanted some flexibility so after some searching I decided upon some Renault Espace seats. These were chosen as they mount into rails and have integral seatbelts. The runners are long enough to span 4 of the crossmembers, meaning four fixing per rail, as in the Espace. The floor needed holes drilling to suite (I actually managed to use two of the standard fixing points), and the rails needed a couple of additional holes drilling. As there are four fixings and four rails I needed 16! spreader plates with captive nuts for the underside of the van. With VW wanting ÂŁ7+vat for each I decided to just make some! A bag of high grade nuts from the stores at work, along with some 2.5mm thick undrilled Unistrut, plus an evening in the garage heralded the below;

These were then fixed into the van;

With the floor lifted another inch to accommodate the depth of the rails, and slots cut into it, I now have a fexible seating arrangement in the back. The rails can take four seats, and can slide back and forth etc.

I wanted to keep space to the sides so I can put a pod down the drivers side of the van to a contain leisure battery etc (the current project) for a onboard entertainment and charging etc.

Don't suppose you have a couple of end caps for the rails you'd sell?
Fitting a row of 3 in mine but setting all the rails in for the full 5 rear seats if desired but need a couple of end caps to stop the brushes coming out.
Nice job thoughT:

Hi Andy,
looks good - I've just bought some Espace seats and rails - gonna do something similar to you.
What bolts and nuts did you use? Did you use the original Espace bolts - if so, what nuts fit them?

Cheers

Hi I'm wanting to do this same thing and put 3 espace seats into the back of a lwb sprinter. I'm a complete newbie and will be getting someone to do the work for me but I've been asked to supply everything so I've got the seats but have no idea on rails ect. I've googled the rail system but can't find anything to buy. Am I meant to get rails for the sprinter or renault rails and what else will I need to fit the seats. Sorry if all this sounds silly but I really don't have a clue and could do with a bit advice. Thanks

You can pick up the rails separately but normally get a better deal with the seats. To do it safely you'll also need some spreader plates for under the floor,(easily made up). Feel free to PM me if you want any info as I did this in my van?

There are two issues with fitting all 5. The width is a pain as the outer rails will line up very closely with the main chassis rails, meaning fixing them would be much more difficult. You will also need to keep an eye on the rear arches for the rear seats too.

Evening all

im in need of some seats in the back of my van with integral belts as we have a little one on the way.
These espace seats look ideal.

couple of questions to thos that have done it,

is there plenty of flexibility of where you put the rails? I alrady have units behind the drivers seat so want to put 2 seats in pushed out towards the sliding door.

and what is the total width of 2 seats ?

many thanks in advance,

Ps if anyone want to throw more photos up of what they have done that would be great T:

Hi there. Reviving a bit of an old thread, but just wondering how are you getting on with the lower height of the Espace seats? Can the kids still see out? Any complaints from the passengers? They seem like a great option for creating a heap of versatility. Any experience would be great. Thanks
