Hello all
First post on here, love the forum, very handy! Have searched through the forum and couldn't find reference to this so thought i'd start a new topic. Bought my T5 a while ago (2.5 130ps AXD) and have always had my doubts about the engine, sounded very noisy to me. Unfortunately my worst fears were confirmed when the heavily worn camshaft wore straight through the top of a hydraulic tappet. (previous owner clearly didn't want to fork out on the correct oil) Strip down was fairly straight forward, made sure timing was at TDC. Replaced new camshaft, bearings and tappets, set up the injectors. It turns over lovely and has great compression but just cant get the engine to fire! I have checked all the connections over and over, made sure everything is plugged in ok. My thought is the injectors aren't firing, but why? I don't have access to a diagnostics computer and just thought id post on here to see if anyone could help with this very frustrating situation. Many thanks in advance

Had a very similar problem after a total engine rebuild on mine. The garage that rebuilt it tried changing all sorts of parts, and in the end got a VW "Master tech" to look at it.
An hour later and he said "the ECU has been corrupted" (or something like that) He wiped and reprogrammed the ECU and it finally started. Maybe there is some sort of overwrite mechanism that writes corrupted data to the ECU when the engine fails for some reason (or maybe I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about) Worth a try though if you're stumped... |

Many thanks, i'll mention it to my garage. Seems strange how it worked fine untill the camshaft wore out. Replaced all mechanical components and i'm left with some sort of electrical issue

I very much doubt the ecu could be corrupted by anything other than someone trying to write to it but it obviously fixed yours when he updated the ecu??? very odd that one.
Have you bled the injector system as far up the chain as you can, probably filter connection is the highest you can get?? |

Have seen connectors pop out the trist connector on the side of the head might be worth checking that couold give so many different faults
