Default Khyam Motordome Classic Awning fitting?!?!

hey guys, just got one of these second hand, havent picked it up yet, hoping to colelct it on the way to Lobb. So, do I need to fit a rail to the van for this to fit? The guy who Im getting it off doesnt seem to think so... this si what he said in an email...

"the awning comes with a figure of 8 strip which slides into the guttering of the van. We had a Maxzda Bongo, and it worked fine with that."

he doesnt seem to think i need a rail, just that some part of it will attach to the guttering on my van, but I dont see how?

Any ideas?

thanks

Yes, you need a rail on the van to connect the other side of the figure-of-8 strip to. The Reimo awning rail is the "preferred but expensive" option at around 125 - if you search the forum there are alternatives proposed.

The T4 van has no gutter rail to attach the strip to.....

Most of the time we don't attach our awning at all, just leave it about a metre from the van.
But, it is possible to place it by the van to use properly and using long guy ropes secured to the ground over the van on the opposite side.
Just be very careful that the top of the slider doesn't tear the awning as it moves either way.
I must admit I've just fitted a rail to ours last weekend, a basic "c" shaped one which will (should !) take the trim on the awning which goes into fig8 section.

It's your friends, come hell or high water.

I've just been to a caravan servicing/repair place and bought a length of flanged awning rail, will sit in the recess along the top of the van absolutely perfect. Cost me 20 quid and I am a very happy camper.....well almost. The only suitable length of rail they had is perfect for a SWB and I've got a LWB, just waiting on an answer from them if they can order me a longer peice and get it to me in time for me to fit for lobbs. So I might have a spare length going already pre-drilled, all you will need is some sealer and stainless self tappers and a screww driver to fit and go.
If ya interested let me know and I'll pm ya as soon as I get an answer form the place on my longer bit.
Oh, for a pic of what something similar see Nasty Nicks 'Redoing my interior' thread, page 5.

Take a look at this.

http://www.khyam.co.uk/detail.asp?p=570

This is good if you do not want to fix a rail to your van.
Plenty of people prefer to fit the rail and works well.
Its just a thought?

i either tie mine too my roof bars or as dave said straight over van but i did find in wind the ropes seems to rub on van, however best way of pinning ropes down was a plastic peg between the spokes on thewheels ieasy to clip on and off
