Want to change the gearbox fluid in my 2002 2.5tdi, i know vw say that the fluid is "filled for life" but it was in my last car as well and when i changed it, it was mucky as anything.
Eurocarparts list the oil below but i have read before to use vw fluid only, whats the advantage of this ? http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Vo...1f1e47499&TRLU |

That's the stuff you need mate, Just changed mine in my 2.5 for the car lube oil, got it from GSF. Thats the stuff they recommend and also in my workshop manual it states 75w/90. I got 2.5 litres in mine, I filled it up to the filler plug.

Forgot to say when I drained the old stuff out into a clean container it was dirty and had like a metallic look to it. The old dirty oil is probably a result of my diff bearings being on their last legs
Not Good but I'm hoping I might get a few more miles from it with some new oil!

Not long mate, On mine (102 hp) There is a drain plug, 14mm hex I think on the bottom of the diff casing, Removed that and let it drain for a while, re fit it then fill up through the filler plug on the front of the box casing. My oil came in 1 litre bottles and had filler tubes on the top which made life a bit easier. Overall I reckon it took about an hour.
I also added a small tube of molyslip additive to try and quieten down the bearings. Just make sure the filler plug comes undone first before draining. It should do though but you never know! |
