mines a long nose - different lights, indicators, grill, bonnet. Look in my signature for link to build thread. Long noses were only made in 2003 (on the van) I believe but you can retro fit the wings and other parts. There are two sets of long nose parts for sale - one on ebay and one on this forum at the moment. The caravelle has a long nose as standard I believe.

long nose was predominantly on the caravelles up until end of production of the t4 they then stuck wat they called an "x-pack" onto the last production models (peed a few caravelle and camper owners off) and probably produced the best batch of t4s ever produced

on a long nose conversion u obviousley have to change bonnet, lights, grille, wings, but do you have to change front panel or cross member ?

you also need extension pieces that fit on the top of the inner wing and chassis leg to extend the length and bring everything forward :)

Yep cross member needs to be changed to mount the light brackets, Also you may find the old rad wont fit, once you have sorted that you will find the rad pipes are not long enough! Worth it in the end though!!

Let's have it right then,
In the UK the only van with a long nose was the X pack produced while waiting for the new T5 in January 03, only for about 8 weeks. truth be known these were the last of the vans that were being produced for the professional converters market before they stopped supply. (The new T5 being converted from VW The Californian)
All Caravelles from late 95 onwards have the long nose before this even caravelles had the short nose.
However on the continent (Left hookers) all caravelles and the vans had the long nose from 96 onwards. that is why sometimes there is confusion in the parts catalogues as they always show parts change from 96 onwards. Yet we in the uk did not get the updated front untill the X pack in 2003. Shame as the X pack although nice only came in the 88hp and not the 102hp.

the best way i find to tell the difference is to look at the profile from the side, if the bonnet seems to be the same angle as the windscreen=shortnose, if the bonnet seems a different angle and longer its a long nose.
hope that helps?

Except.....
I have a 2003 LHD Transporter, in Norway, bought here, that is "short nose". It was 2003 when it was changed here. Really DOES cause confusion on (German) eBay when it says "Fits ALL models from 1996-2006" etc!!!!
