Have a water pump leaking on the van and my nearest commercial dealer is Abridge in Loughton.

I phone them up to order the parts and I have to personally go to them to pay for the parts before they will order them. I cannot pay by card over the phone!

Therefore I have to go to Loughton from Maldon to swipe the card and then come home again whilst they order the parts. Once the parts are in I then have to go and pick them up.

Thats a total of about 160 miles because they do not take card payment over the phone!! :bhd

F*&k em, I'll go to German and Swedish instead and hope the parts are good enough.

Any one else had this problem with VW dealers? Wouldn't be so bad but the one in Chelmsford will not do commercial parts any more. Getting to the stage where I'm thinking of selling this bl**dy thing as it's a pain in the a$e.

220 for the bits for a cam belt and water pump

Even better, VW now put a surcharge on the new bits , you have to return the old broken bits to recover the surcharge, about 8 on a water pump i think,
No ideas why they want scrap, but it now means 3 or 4 trips back and fore to your lovely dealer,
Off to GSF, Euro or your local motor factors I think

our local vw dealers was so badly run and mismanaged that all 3 parts department staff left,1 of which went to local seat garage,we now use same guy to order our vw parts for us through the seat garage,vw wanted 540 for a flywheel and clutch kit for a 54 plate golf tdi, plus 100 surcharge for old flywheel,
ordered it from seat garage 380 all in and no surcharge on old flywheel, didnt want it back which was good as it was f:cd,so if there is one more local to you worth a try

Call Wayside parts in Milton Keynes.

They are a genuine VW dealer but they have separated the parts dept into a whole separate and dedicated business. They are exceptionally good at getting the right part AND they do mail order. What's more they probably have the part on the shelf.

I don't have the number to hand but if need be call the VW dealer in Bletchley and ask for it. All the local VAG dealers there are owned by Wayside.

Hiya Dave-remember me? I purchased a couple of bikes from you in the past? You still commuting down to Basingstoke?

I've used the VW place in Ipswich who have been very good, and have most bits in stock, and accept payment by card over the phone.

Schilwards in Gt Leighs have been good for repairs if you don't get the time to do yourself. Or if you are alazy bast like me.

Sorry to hear of your home problems.

Hiya Matey,

Yep I did see your name on here and remembered the GT550 and the GS1000. Both served you well I hope :)

Yeah, home is a problem but hey you gotta keep smiling ;)

The best thing is I have been under the van and it's not the water pump, its one of the plastic hose housings that bolts to the block. Its got a crack in it and is quite easy to get to.

It was Schilwards who quoted 500 plus VAT

I think I know the piece you are talking about-the one on my brothers van went. Seems to be made of the same material the thermostat housing was made of on my Merc. Only the replacement for the Merc is now made in alloy.

I thought I got a good price from Schilwards-mind you, that's only compared to prices elsewhere i saw on here.

The GT I managed 15,000 miles on before selling it on-never did a thing to it, even though some days it would cruise at 90mph, other days just 60mph. Never investigated, just put up with it. The GSX1100F I sold after a Tesco bollard/left pannier incident, and sold it to someone else on "that" forum.

Haven't any troubles with VW dealers not wanting to take my money over the phone - in fact the local dealer in salisbury never asked for any payment before ordering stuff in. But the last time I was getting some bits to repair my heater, they never called me back to let me know they'd arrived. I waited about 4 weeks before calling back in (the repair wasn't urgent and I was away a lot over that time anyway) and was told company policy was that they were no longer allowed to sell commercial parts due to internal competition within the VAG group. Despite there being no VW commercial dealer in town, and the nearest one being about 40 minutes away.

So I ring up the commercial place (breeze in totton) who happily took my card payment overv the phone, ordered my bits up and were generally very helpful in all regards apart from that they wouldn't post the bits out. Which is a bit annoying when it means you have to waste an hour and a half going to collect a 4 heater cable.

Oh, and when I mentioned to the guy at Breeze that I'd had to come all the way from salisbury, he looked most confused. "Why didn't you just order the bits from the VW place in salisbury" When I explained what the salisbury parts dept had said he shrugged and said "It's news to us - we can still sell bits for VW cars and audi/skoda/seats. No idea what they're on about"

Nice to see company policy applied so uniformly. :D

I'm still riding a bike into London (Binned Basigstoke at the start of 2005 and took a year off).

Got a Fazer Thou now and ride it into Euston every day.

20 to fill up a bike tank

I bet if I sat down and worked it out it is probably cheaper to get the train.

You still going up to town every day? Still in Witham?

Just called them and guess what, no cedit cards over the phone and no postage of parts.

Just as bad as the rest IMHO :(

i live in devon and my local VW dealer isnt much help. they certainly werent interested in me t25 crewcab, have never bothered getting bits for me t4 from them. if i need genuine bits i use a company called TPS [trade parts specialists]. they do all original VAG stuff and are owned by VW. dont know if you have one up your way. other than them i use GSF or euro car parts.

That doesn't sound right, when I spoke to them a month ago they were happy to take payment by phone and post out (subject to size of course).
