The gearbox has started to whine :( I guess it will have to be replaced, any ideas on the cost of a box??? (manual 2.5i petrol)

Try changing fluid and maybe put in an additive like slick 50 or whatever they do, also could it not be something other than the gearbox?

:( Definately box (Diff) press the clutch and it goes quiet, Gearbox additive should not be used although in the old days, we used to put sawdust in a noisy axle just to sell it I: LOL:

Rusty says it goes quiet when the clutch pedal is pushed in A worn release brg will be noisy when the pedal is pushed.

not 1, 2, 4 or 5 though!

When the box was rebuilt, the guy found a diff bearing broken up. Much quieter now :D plus I've replaced the drive shafts and wheel bearings. Super smooth and quiet T:
