I would just buy it and find out. Its not a lot of money after all. It will increase the bhp by something, maybe not 12 more like 8. But it will look good under the lid.
Get your money out and buy it. Its only 50 after all :):):)

If the air filter sucks air from the engine bay doesn't that mean it will be hotter than the air from the standard one fitted that sucks air from outside via the vent on the offside wing?

That results in 50 plus P&P out of pocket and less BHP, doesn't it?

Ian. I:

that what i thought

the orig air box has duckting into the air box sealed from the engine bay :ILU:
take this out and its sucking from the engine bay also

i think the claims are quackers

so if you have a 88hp you'll get 14bhp
if you have a 102hp you'll get 14hp as well!
that just dont sound right

surely something like a K&N replacement panel filter may be better? Make use of the original airbox and piping and just allow more free flowing air through the filter. These also come with a lifetime guarantee, you just clean them once a year rather than replacing them, and you get a little edge to your performance

BANANAVAN
08-09-08, 11:23
as with any reusable filter you have to be careful that no cleaning oil gets on yor MAF sensor

there easy enough to make up ureself buy a universal cone filter for like 20 quid and use u- bends etc that can be bought a motorworld etc. having previously done this on my last car i wont be doing it again makes the engine way louder, which is ok if you like that sort of thing and doesnt really add any noticible bhp or torque to the car or van. prefer to save for an intercooler myself so the turbo could be tweeked a little.

tidytransporters
08-09-08, 21:01
So how come k&n sell so many kits for so many different types of cars and vans. They dont make them for fun!

I tested a k&n kit and my kit and got the same results, Which makes my kit good value it is 25 cheaper and looks better. If you dont like it, or think it wont work don't buy it, simple!

Yes they are easy to make up:

filter 17
90 induction pipe 14
reducer to fit on t4 induction pipe 6.59
connector pipe 3.22
jubilee clips 0.78

So thats a total of 41.59

It's not as easy as using a cone and some stuff

These retail for 49.99+ 5.50 post

K&N sell them for 70.49 + 7.50 post

Now to make 8.40 per kit and pay ebay fees and paypal fees and have the time to make it up is a pretty s****y deal, I sometime wonder why i bother

Would you do it? I dont even make a drink out of it!!

I do it because i love t4's and it does give more power and it does sound nice (to me anyway)

I am here to support my products! They do work, yes maybe it's not suitable for all as some want to keep your t4 nice and quite and standard. Me i want performance! And thats what you get! Me and k&n cannot be wrong! I welcome anybodys views and comments. So if you get 8bhp or 10bhp or 12bhp, you will get a bhp increase and it looks cool, the custom look is always good

Thanks tidyts.:D

really glad you belive in what you sell.... A: its good to see. and as you point out for an 8/9 profit margin your not gonna end your mortgage early making these..so there must be another reason to do it.

like you say if you don't belive it or like it don't buy it. judging by your feed back every body who bought is happy...enough said.

Its gotta come down to what would you spend 50 on????A: every one on here has their different view and thats where we get our ideas or our next inspiration, our next mod....intercooler....project power..etc. so keep making them aslong as you keep selling them, it certainly not doing any harm.

thanks for resonce.

I wasnt tryin to be offensive, your kit is good value and saves alot of hastle custom building one. I was commenting on induction kits as a whole, not tryin to be offensive to you or your product. I was just commenting that i didnt used to like my induction kit on my last car, to loud and didnt do alot. Im sure that lots will like the sound they give off, anyhow :ILU:T:

Sorry for being thick Tidyts but are these kits purely for the 2.5tdi or do they fit the 1.9td??

Blackett
09-09-08, 19:27
I think you 'and' K&N are wrong. These filter mods are a complete waste of time. A T4 is not restricted on the inlet side of things. As far as I can work out anyway, my van has the standard filter, I had it remapped at Jabbasport and it now apparently has 140BHP (it has not been proven on a Dyno). It will travel a quarter of a mile in 18.5 seconds at roughly 72.5mph. The van will do 0-58 mph in 11.77 seconds, a 174BHP T5 takes over 12 seconds to 62mph.

All this with the standard filter! So may I suggest that my van is able to get plenty of air into the engine to make it go quick, it's just what it does with it that makes the difference. This filter looks great but I believe would increase the inlet temperatures to my engine as it draws air from the engine bay, and make it slower:eek:

If you fancy proving the performance gain then send me a PM and we can test the system on FIA approved timing gear at Santa Pod, publish the results and settle it.

hi,on the idea of fitting a aftermarket filter increases horse powerI: MMMMmmm, i would of thought vw and the rest of motor car makers would fit it as standard if they could get this extra performance for little outlay,100 bhp sounds so much better than 88bhp.....
ok so you might say they fit them so they have to be changed at service time so the dealers make more money:confused: the cost of the paper filter and replament time is just a tiny tiny fraction of a service cost.

try holding up a kn filter to the light, yup you can see sunlight, paper no.
a diesel flows a excess of air as standard.does not need more unless you increase the fuel flow.
the only way to test the two filters, is to use a manometer to see the pressure drop after the filter.
formula one cars use paper filters....
