Just got a new van, when I reach 70pmh the power goes!
It used to be a company van, I spoke to the comapany they said it is limited.
Does anyone know where the limiter might be?:) and how to take it off?

Thanks:)

public highway is only a max of 70mph so cant see where the problem is Rasp:

could be set by ecu or fuel pump , i take it thats it is a ex hire van as they tend to have simlaer things .

could be restricter in exuast or front pipe or have a inducer on the turbo , so many diffrent ways to restict it to be honest and never heard of it .

does it just stop reving when you reach 70mph

You could try having a look in the fuse box for an unknown fuse and replace it with a blown one, worked in a truck I once drove. (unknown to me until I clocked 70 over-taking everything in sight. Boy did the usual driver get a mouth full when I got back.)

If not any garage should be able to find and remove it easily enough.

Why not keep it fitted, think of the fuel saving and less chance of a ban!I:

You could ask the company again, they should know who restricted it? Might save the hassle of searching?

check under the gas pedal sometimes there is a plastic screw into the floor that limits the pedal

I hope that the following has not been done on your van. When looking at posts if they have any information on vagcom I cut and past it to a word doc. One post on the tdi forum said the following about using channel 18 in adaptation

Channel 18:

On some EDC-15 ECUs, this channel has a non-zero value in it like 190.
Yes, that's the "speed limiter". Don't mess with it!
It can only be adjusted downward, and it's one-way! You cannot increase the value, and if you decrease it, you're stuck with it.
So unless you want to permanently decrease your car's top speed, Don't mess with it!

If you do mess with it and your car ends up with a lower top speed than it had before, don't call us, don't e-mail us, and don't complain that we didn't warn you!

I think you need to check the physical things already mentioned in this post and then find out who restricted it and how they did it.

I thought the public highway limit was 140Mph Rasp: thats why a car with flashing blue lights keeps chasing!!
Ye when I get to 70 it just stops reving almost like there is no diesel left!

Thanks for all the tips ill have another look at what it could be.

If all goes well I should be picking up a 2000 2.5TDI on Saturday. The guy I'm buying it from says that it had been limited to 68mp for it's first 91,000 miles but he had it de-limited. Took his 'guy in the garage' about a week to suss out how to do it apparently. I'll ask him for more details when I see him (unless the deal falls through).

Does anybody know if there are any negative points about buying a previously limited van? (i.e. engine problems etc)
