So please tell me (especially those of you that have slept in/or owned multiple awnings - what is the very best awning you can get for the t4.

Best described in terms of:
size
cost (am happy to pay good money for good quality)
Shape (I think I would prefer not to have a tunnel tent if poss?
hydrostatic head (3000) if possible?

Please send pics (ideally) or links or general comments if you can help me find one you know to be good :DT:

Here's my Reimo, cost over £300 & 3000mm waterproof, includes a 2 man inner tent. I have never wanted to fit an awning rail to my van so only ever park the van really close.
This is not my van :)

To the point of not wanting to fit an awning rail or wanting to lash it over my van I do believe your money would be better spent on a tent. You will get a better deal as tenting is a larger market than awnings.
Check this for example, its just the first one I saw, pricey but its a beast:

having owned a couple and seen many more i can offer one piece of advice! Buy the one that is easiest to erect, the Khyam. Even if u are a happily married pacifist awning erection will make u want to kill ur husband/wife/partner! Then Rob90210 parks next to you, takes out his awning, throws it up in the air, it self erects and he pegs down the 4 corners, job done.
I cant reccomend the khyham enough, i know im having one for next year! Expensive but worth every one of the £250 odd!

Picked up a khyam motor dome classic (http://www.khyam.co.uk/product_tent.asp?category=Khyam%20QE&type=Caravan/Motorcaravan) off ebay couple of years ago new but cheep
Think itís great if itís big enough for you got an inner tent as well, thing I like about it is thy are realy quick to put up, the poles are connected to the tent so itís a bit like fighting with a giant spider but I can get it up by my self in 5 min goes up realy quick
Sorry no pics but loads on the web (http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&q=Motordome+Classic&start=20&sa=N&ndsp=20)

incidentally where have you seen it for £250? The Kyham website looks like it says £450 for the motordome sleeper unless I'm looking at the wrong one!

And poles held together with masking tape I:H:

Kyham seem to have the monoploy on here. We've got the Reimo Tour Easy. Cheap and suits our needs http://www.campershop.co.uk/awnings.htm#reimo_tour_easy_awning

might be a bit tunnel tent like for you. Benefit of a reimo or any other tunnel type awning is fibre poles which allow the tent to flex in high winds.

LOL:Yep, the elbow snapped again last weekend :( apparently there is a design fault and they now produce a modified elbow, so I need to get hold of one!!

My khyam leaked (badly) - so not impressed with it for £300 tent - now got a royal traveller tunnel £120 its not as posh as the khyam but much better value for money & I'm not scared about trashing a £120 tent in a gale compared to a £300 one.

My Royal Traveller has put up with some pretty severe down pours without any issues. Takes me about 15 minutes to put up and 10 to take down. Tricky to put up on your own though. Works well for the money and seems well thought out, but I do like the Kyams

Got a Kyham family sleeper for Vanfest and i can confirm it is the cats pygamas. Only issue is the elbow joint as far as i see and Kyham are happy to send new ones free. Haven't broke one yet but tents do break and others i have had the manufacturer has never been as cool as Kyham.

Ive owned both sorts of awning...Abrief summary...

Reimo ToumobileXL Tunnel....Huge, light inside, packed away easily and compact, took strong winds...no not the curry induced sort, lots of windows doors etc....Caused lots of arguments when trying to erect it, took ages to put up and take down, ie if pulled up beside a Kyham they would be erected, pegged down and cooking tea before we were ready to hammer pegs in!!!

Kyham Motordome...still big enough for 2 and get half a dozen in to chill in the evening, up and pegged down in 5 mins max..new ones are light inside although could do with a few mods in the design of doors/windows.., bit bulky when in the bag, Elbow/Knuckles can cause injuries if daft enough to have fingers in them when snap shut!! Expensive to buy..

Overall though give me a Kyham anyday....the hassles of the tunnel just were too great and nearly ruined many a trip trying to erect especially if not a still sunny day..T:

I've just got myself a SunnCamp Auton.
After breaking 2 gazebos, I thought the awning was the way forward.

Its excellent value for money at £95, no inner tent, but plenty of room, windows and doors :)

Had a Reimo Tour Family. Much much much better quality then anything british but weight a lot and very complecated to put up but once up, really strong and massive space and lots of nice details like built in blinds and things.

That was cool for holidays but lots of work and hassle for a long weekend so now got a smaller and more practical Khyam Motordome. Can put it up in 10 minutes and take it down in 5 but is a bit too small for anything mote then a chillout space. Think I'll upgrade to the one with the seperate sleeper annex when I can.

Hope that helps.:ILU:

bought a JustKampers tunnel awning, loads of room and built in groundsheet but you cannot put it up on your own (well i couldnt). Mine also had a manufacturing defect (so they said) so i took it back and replaced it with a Khyam motordome sleeper. Not as much room but much easier to put up and can be done single handed.

You can't beat a khyam for one night or two but for anything more it get's a bit cramped.
To get round it we've bought this...

Yes it a trailer tent and you can hardly tell you are towing it.

More like a fooking palace

Guess you may be the next candidate for donation of the forum marquee at Vanfest next year :D

Due to the unfailing recommendations (bar one) for khyam motordome I've just ordered one! I went for the above (motordome sleeper) and manged to haggle it down from £400 to £360 (brand new of course!) - result! Bought the groundsheet as well....

Cheers for all the good advice! T:
