2.4 T4 LWB Insurance write off valuation

My insurance company have just told me that my T4 is not economical to repair!

Even tho the damage to it isn't too bad. I'm considering buying the van back from the insurance company and repairing it myself.

The thing is, I have an insurance bloke coming tomorrow to "value" my van so I get a "fair" price for it. (less my excess of 250)

How much do you think a 1998(T) 2.4D Long Wheel Base in white is worth??

Its quite tidy, shows 35,000 miles on the clock (add another 60,000 if you read the service history)

Drives perfectly, and has no major problems aside from what is being claimed on the insurance.

Any price guides or rough estimates would be greatly appreciated. :)

but if you feel you can repair it and the price after negotiation is what you think is fair then go for it:cool:

I'd be amazed if they offer you more than 1500. :(

I may be wrong but didnt the 2.4 engine become 2.5tdi in 1996. have you swapped engines?

Whats been broken on it?

2.4 LWB 12 years old and according to you 95,000 miles.

I'd say a value of 1500 to 2000 and to be honest at 2k you're getting into the realm of 2.5TDI vans.

i paid 3000 for a 1998 SWB 100,000 miles , very good nick no rust , service history 2 owners ...but that was 3 years ago for a dealer.

i reckon between 1000 and 1500 is more likely unless you have an agreed value policy

1000 1500 to them its just a van , but it might be worth a good valet before they come first impresions n all that ,also hide the s/h low mileage will "bum" up the price . also are you sure on the year?

If you want to by it back they'll stich you up one way or another. Offer you a low payout yet you can buy your van back cheap, or if you big it up and say your van is worth over the book price they'll eventually say yes to the extra ?500 then add an extra 600 to your buy back price.
Your best bet is to get a local body guy to look over the van before the assessor comes. Get a couple of quotes to find out how much it will cost you to get fixed. Then you'll know how much it's worth.
if your not happy with either the offer price or the buy back price argue the point with them. Hopefully the offer price for your van minus your buy back price should cover your repair AND ecsess cost. Remember to ask your insurance company if the damage will be recorded. Nothing worse than you putting all that work in only when you come to sell no one will buy it cos it's a catorgary write off. p.s. good luck and keep us posted:gl

they should offer minus the excess what it would cost to replace the van today at the market value of same year condition like for like, if you modify your van camper etc always get agreed value policy so you have no aggro in a time of a claim. if they write it off cat c/d is fine just means they didnt find it economical to repair and should have no problems selling it if repaired properly if they place it at cat a/b it is unfit for repair/road use ever
see parkers for valuation

They've said it can be bought back and will be recorded. It is just that it is not economical to repair.

Its a bloody good van so hopefully they offer a reasonable value and I can repair it myself.

I'm on the look out for a passenger door and a sliding door, preferebly in white.
Then it just needs the lower panel fixing and a bit of paint!

Sounds so easy!!
But I do like the idea of adding some cash and up grading to a 2.5 Tdi!!

I'll let you all know what price they offer as soon as I know.

Had a flick through the latest Parkers price guide today - they list T4's from 1996 (but not all models)...

Also check out Auto Trader to see how much it would actually cost you to replace your van like for like (without the damage) from a trader...

They will give you well under a bag of sand for it (grand) They go on the market value, which usually means :* but what ever price they give you, got to be worth buying back from them:ILU:

It's official, I love my insurance company!!

They've offered me 2500 for my 1998 2.4 T4 :D

And have the option to take 90% of the money and keep the van.
So 2500 -10% is 2250 and then take off another 250 for my excess, so now I have my old T4 and 2000 in my pocket.

I'm on the look out for a 2.5 Tdi LWB (gunna add some more cash) and I'll be breaking my 1998 2.4 LWB, which is mechanically sound, but has body work damage down the left side.

A result for me, not the insurance company!!!! Rasp:LOL:

T4_Pimp

There's no captains seats, it'sgot electric leather seats from a Jaguar x type, but they will go in my next van.

Do you think it's worth more as a whole van?
