By the time it gets to 100k it won't be long before you'll be needing a new torque converter!

That said, mine had a brand new VW auto box less than 30k ago and it's nowt but trouble! Sick of the :* thing, would never ever ever recommend one to anyone!!

Only still got it cos I can't afford to get owt else! Would put a :* match to it if I thought I'd get a pay out! I:

Anyway, if you still want one.......fill your boots! LOL:

All that said, if I could find someone that actually knew what the hell they were doing with it I could probably get mine sorted, its just finding someone that does?!

Sorry if this wasn't the answer that you were looking for.....:(

Is it petrol or diesel, what year, what condition? If it looks to good to be true it probably is!

Hi ,

Do a search on Clutch and Gearbox problems as well, that way you won't feel like Auto's are the only Drive problems a T4 has!

Maintenance is the Key most of the Time...

:(

That right there is the crux of an autobox. Maintenance and a mechanic who knows what he is doing. If you search all my posts you will find a fair bit of info from my recent experiences. I would have no problems getting another auto but with certain restrictions with regard to previous maintenance etc.

Mine has 141k on it and the last work that was done, which wasn't needed as a result of a box fault, confirmed that the box is running great and still very clean oilwise.

I've read mcjjordans views on autoboxes and if I had the run of bad luck that he had I would think exactly as he does, but, I and many others haven't had that experience. The scare stories on this site that go with this autobox made me so paranoid about my own that I have spoken to quite a number of autobox specialists, none of whom think there is anything wrong with this box. If you are going to fill your bus with water tanks, cookers etc and climb up and down Devon then I would recommend a manual - which are a long way from bullet proof themselves going by this site. The auto box is used in the VW Sharan, Ford Galaxy, Seat Alhambra and in a few others too I think. According to specialists, they are no worse or better than any other box. Maintenance is the key. Every specialist did say that BMW X5 boxes are appalling though.

ive had 2 autos my first t4s both boxes failed one had extensive history and low miles after it being in to vw 4 times they admitted it was a common fault got shot of it at a huge loss and vowed never to touch one again ive since had 6 manuals all with no faults .incidentally my mates auto also had problems and he also changed to manual unless you have a disability that requires one avoid at all costs

Cheers for the replies it would appear that if they have had a good service history automatics are no worse than manuels is that a fair summary?:)
