Call that a horn?!!!

I've had my T4 a few months now and only used the horn for the first time yesterday. Someone cut me up and I banged my fist on the horn only to hear a faint and rather polite.....beeeep
Ebarassing or what?! Great big chunk of steet puts out a girly beep that would shame a moped. Can I get a bigger horn? no rude comments please ;)

Claxon make loud horns..
Not sure if they are legal to use though as I believe they are too loud for use on the highway. !!

I like the horn on my T4 .. its a kinda sexy perrrrr rather than a grumpy growl.. Lol.

i have got a set of train horns in garage still i think , not sure if threw them out , am of for a look now LOL:

cant fit them to van though as they are proper air horn's and stupidly loud and for oblivios reasons the size and needing air ..

just had a quick look and cant see them so looks like they have been thrown away or up in loft who knows , i have had them for years thought they was in a unit in garage but all i found was about 20-305ton ratchet straps and a sh8t load of air suzis.

Air horns definately the way to go!!
i fitted mine allmost straight way due to the beeeeeep as you say.
Fitted mine mounted trumpet down on a peice of alloy angle in front of the heater intake and battery. Very load, they run off a compressor mounted right in front of battery.
You need to runthem through a realy tho.
I also left the old horn in place in case the mot man had somthing to say but so far not an issue!

keep it simple get another car horn of any car and wire in with your standard horn loads louder and has a nice sound to it and costs nothing to do

Now they are Really cool.
The last one in particular!!
I am also thinking of changing my horn. Even though my van is bright yellow, you'd think it was invisible, the amount of people who just pull out in front of it!!
I've looked at boat chandlers as well. I think I may get one of these (http://www.midlandchandlers.co.uk/TWIN-TRUMPET-HORN-12V_A16US.aspx).

JIMMYJAMES
09-04-09, 19:26
I wouldn't bother Jurasik they are just a car horn with a cone on it. Air horns are much more effective!

yeah man!!.....i used to have that. kids walk out in front of it and all that.
how big bright and yellow does it need to be? Divvies.

i need a proper horn. you'd think it was a mini till you turned round.
them ship horns are a bit too bassy for me. i want somat that only echos for about 5 seconds. T:

for the verry same reason i installed a two tone air horn, i mounted the trumpets facing downwards behind the passenges side headlight in the battery area, and monted the compressor infront of the battery near the hole through for the fuel filter, works a treat, cant a=-say where they came from though they were hanging around the garage, think they came in on a car my dad imported from the states. SEriously loud tho, they have passed all mot's so far but if there is ever a problem can just take the original wires off the relay and put them back on the old bleeeeping horn.

I used to have air horns on my mini. They were a lot of fun, but I felt that the pitch was just too high. I need a deeper sounding horn. I don't know if this is possible without having to fit something maahoosive.
Any ideas?

got twin horns off a vectra from the scrappy, needed a relay coz it popped the 10amp fuse but once sorted they work a treat and sound respectableT:

my horn was seriously pathetic till i had a crash seems to work ok now though.
probably would recomend driving into a new passat to get your horn working thoughI:

don't wanna hear on the news that a unusual number of t4's have been intentionally crashing into other vehicles.

Hiya. I'm fairly new to this forum and only just got me a 1999 Caravelle. The horns dont work as completely corroded through. Just a quick question.

Why are there two horns under the driver wings (separate wiring too), was it originally twin tone or is one for an alarm? Thanks

Ive been recommended not to mount my nautilus horns in the engine bay...

however I really want to keep em out the crud of the road.

How have people mounted theirs in the engine?
