I Have a 95 2.4 ltr diesel T4.

When i bought it last year it had a standard battery fitted under the drivers seat. I am so fed up with this battery losing power...

I want to get a proper leisure battery. Can I get one that will fit under the seat?

most 85 amp will fit under the seat or you could fit it next to van battery

your better off fitting the battery under the bonnet, as the voltage drop across the charging system will mean, the battery will not get quite as much juice as if in the back, ergo it will last a it longer!

There will be minimal volt drop no matter where you put it in the van as long as the cable is not too long,we are talking around 3 millivolts per metre and as the alternator is putting out 14-15 volts it wont matter ,just make sure the relay and cable is big enough to handle the current,(up to 100 amp)also there is a bit of work fitting it under the bonnet, brackets etc,:)

Its good to know that a normal leisure battery if used lots gives off some nice explosive fumes so should be vented. Gel Batteries do not do this however and are muchous safeous.

Or so I am told.

Surely dependant on the size of cable you use? Loads of split charge ready made systems come with pathetic cable.

Run a decent size cable and you'll be fine. Think I used something like 75A to run from bonnet to under bed (in a LWB ;))

Presume you mean a gel one for that money??

This looks good for a relay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HEAVY-DUTY-SPLIT-CHARGING-RELAY-100-AMP_W0QQitemZ140298203617QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Cam pervan_Caravan_Accessories?hash=item140298203617&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18 :)

BUT gel batteries require a smart charger to prevent over charging them, withstands long periods of out of use (typical 6 months without losing charge) & much more expensive..

drill a hole and poke the vent pipe outside. Job done :)
