what do you mean by over revs

is your clutch going????

or do you mean you feel like there should be another gear?

you can change the 5th gear on most 1.9 gearboxes, i've been told. there is loads of info on here about it. maybe you should try a search. those who've done it say it makes a huge difference.

in 5th i'm double plus 5. so 3 thousand revs = 30+30+5 = 65

80 would be 80-5 = 75 half that is about 3700.

80 is just too fast for my pocket. will stick to 70 until the new gear goes in.T:

once you get over 60mph you use a hellava lot more fuel too.

Correct - glad I'm not the only one that notices!! It really is a HUGE difference and with the cost of the bloody stuff, I tend to stick at 65 too at most....

But I'm running over sized wheels and tyres too, so at least my recorded 65 is REALLY 65mph - not 58...... (running 17" wheels with 225/55 tyres in case anyone wanted to know).

I was going to get the lower 5th myself, up until my engine died, courtesy of a sheared bottom pulley bolt.

The only thing I'd say is you really need to have a grunty 1.9 in order to pull the longer gearing..........that means at least the basic PP mods

mine is quite happy. standard 1.9td with a .71 ratio from a .75(factory). it drives far better than it did. i dont go any faster but just a nicer van to drive all roundT:

I cruise at 65 too, in my 2.5 that's about 2200-2300 revs.

I find it more relaxed driving at that speed, plus it means I get to spend more time in the van. T:

in my 1.9 Tdi (golf engine) with 0.71:1 ratio 5th from the golf I hit 70 at 2900 but once I put full interior in 70 was at 3100 so putting 0.68:1 5th in today so should see 70 around 2800 at least Ill post my results on here,

Foxy do you want my spare gears?? flash me a text and let me know and also about the spraying T:

The only thing that gets right on my nerves about my van is the revs in 5th....

It does my head right in it does....:(...

I gotta get the 5th gear upgrade done....

steiner has done it a couple of times. he says you just remove one of the front wheels and
then take off a plate.

do a search on here. i think it was originally posted by aggies t4...

how does it change the revs to speed with more load in the back? 70 will be about 3100 in mine but how can the ratio change with the weight?
