Ummmm gotta put my hand up sheepishly mate, the ones on this thread were my spare set that we talked about ages ago...sorry! I never thought they would go for this much, Im still out in Africa and asked my neighbour to sell off all my spare bits n bobs. To be honest, im as stunned as anyone that they went for that much.

But I did keep a set for my Doka :)

I agree that supporting the independent entrereneurs and craftsmen is nothing but a good thing, but in this case the eBay seller is also a top bloke who specialises in T4s and can supply good quality second hand parts (I saved a huge amount recently vs buying a new extortionate ABS part from VW for example). That set of lights was obviously worth that much money to a bunch of people to get the price that high - not that I'd ever consider parting with that much for them, and Turks project looks awesome! Interesting thread guys, as I tend to read everything headlight related.
It's particularly interesting to see what people think of the original Projekt Zwo headlights that occasionally come up for sale.

And many thanks for those kind words guys, and thanks for the support T:

That price paid for the recent ebay set, I would say is just about right. I've seen them go for as much as £450 a set. I've even seen a set sold for £250 that required two new projector units !

When I began my project, I almost bought a set, to reverse engineer as it were. But after researching the units that Projekt Zwo used in the construction, I realised that the units were designed back in the late 80's ! So just how good were the E30 headlamp units !? would they out perform the original OEM headlights ? ........ the question is still unanswered.

One thing I knew for sure, they would not even come close to the Hella units I'm using in my design. Headlight and reflector design has come a long way in 20 years.

As the Hella units were different dimensions than the E30 units, I had to design and build from scratch. So purchasing a second hand set of Projekt Zwo's for experimentation seemed pointless. So I put the money toward my prototypes in stead.

I'm so close now to completing a working prototype, just one more final hurdle to overcome .......... it's not the design that flawed, it's the construction phase that not working out too well. Basically, I discovered a weakness, a problem I hope to solve in the coming weeks.

And just to finish off, what awaits us :D this is the previous prototype, the latest prototype has the healight units further apart >>

In this shot, as an example, you can see just how bright that high beam is ........ it so bright you can't even look directly at it !

Yes :D

I'll probably use PETG, Polycarbonate seems to be the preferred material over acrylic as it's less brittle and clearer supposedly.
But you can also get clear ABS that is high impact, so quite a bit of research required in that department.

So yes, definitely ...... clear covers will be an option. Another option will be the inclusion of Day Light Running lights as I truly believe they will eventually become mandatory on all vehicles.

Hi Turk,

Your project looks amazing! I wouldn't know where to start on such a labour of love. Maximum respect from me!

A couple of quick questions - can I go on your no doubt very long list of potential adoptees, please?

Is your brilliant (all puns intended!) solution only for the short nose T4, or are you planning to make a long nose version as well?

PS If you need product photographs for packaging etc, feel free to get in touch.

Good luck with your fantastic project.

Thanks familylugg T: I'm glad you like them !

I added you to the project thread as I'll be using the post dates as the official order dates, to save confusion at a later date.

I'll bare you in mind when it comes to the packaging stage. I've already got a forum member looking into that department for me, but it'll be interesting to see what you could come up with also. So many thinks on that.

Apologies to the original poster for hijacking the thread, but I think we've answered the question in a round about way.
Old technology against the very latest available, currently there's nothing like the Projekt Zwo available .......... but soon, there will be :D

Love mine and wouldn't be without them T:

It's not about being brighter for me, I've got the upgraded loom and decent bulbs and they are fine, It's about owning an pair that were an available upgrade from new via VW, like AMG etc.

I must take a mould from these as if anyone goes into the front of me I'd be gutted :(

#30 ·
About £400 mate ....... for the basic version T:

A great deal depends on how the prototyping goes. Aluminium, stainless steel, glassfiber and High Impact Polystyrene are just some of the materials I'm testing at the moment. Only time will tell which way the final product will go, the materials used in the construction of these quad lights will determine the final price I believe.

And God forbid that you damage those Projekt Zwo' T4Chippy, excellent idea taking a mould off them T:

I would say to anybody reading this thread, if any happen to come your way ....... grab em ! they're an investment, you'll never loose any money on them if you ever decide to sell them on again. And obviously they'll make your bus look superb ;)

Hi Turk

thats pretty impressive work you have done there.T:T: So your prototype will never the less be pretty expensive. But you are building that for yourself and its looking fantastic.

To come back to the thread starter I would just like to say that my Van already had these Projekt Zwo Headlights when I bought it. And I am pretty happy about that. New Price of these in Germany at Projekt Zwo was about 1800.00 I believe. My first broken Xenon Bulb cost my 90,00 Euros to replace 2 years ago. So its not exactly peanuts one spends when one goes for those lights.
I have seen them go for a lot more then those you pointed out on ebay .That is nothing unusual. They are rare and where not cheap to buy in the first place. Therefore I would not expect to get them for small money.

Thanks for you kind words juwe01 T:

The original price of the Projekt Zwo' some ten years ago, I believe was 1600.00 Euro's, so you are correct in saying 1800.00 quid.

That would make my T4 Quads extremely cheap in comparison at around £400 !:D

Baring in mind, the alternative were the nasty DRL type headlight units that I purchased 3 years ago, were £307 ! and are next to useless. So much so, I've resorted back to my standard OEM headlights as I like to see where I'm going at night.

TURK, do you plan to make a kit for long nose?
I just bought PZ for long nose for something like 150quids, but as you mentioned it is 20yesrs old technology and I'd prefer something modern.

TURK, do you plan to make a kit for long nose?

Yes, on the cards mate T:

I also believe they'll be easier to design and fabricate, as there's more space available in front of the slam panel.

This is the main issue I have with the design of the short nose version, there's literally millimeters to spare in the aperture in the slam panel. Putting two Hella headlight units side by side in an aperture that was originally designed to accommodate only one headlamp unit, is proving to be quite difficult.

So having that extra space on the long nose, should make things somewhat easier.

Thats a good deal, doubt youd find any for that money too easily.. im on lookout for some long nose P2's for my current build, hardly ever see them for sale, UK or German Bay... half considering getting hold of a 150bhp T4 from Zee Chermans, with Projekt Zwo, to break it and get a few of the Gucci bits for myself.

Definitely be interested to know more from Turk, if he does produce something for the longnose

Morning biggles,

Yes, will be working on the long nose version, once I've sussed out this alignment issue I have with the short nose version.
See a couple of posts above yours I:

That was a deal and half Ricky got ! happy for you mate A:

Thing is, what condition were they in. Many of the Projekt Zwo headlight units are damaged. The reflector part tends to peel.
Any photo's Ricky ? I'd be interested in see them.
