Most Merc wheels fit as 112 x 5 common on Benze rims but always verfy with seller as not all mercs have this PDC. Central bore is bigger so will need a set of Spigot rings (just type merc to VW on ebay, oads come up).

Re the tyres - a T4 would have been 195 x 70 x 15 if a Transporter ot 205 x 65 x 15 if a Caravelle - so a ration wall ET of 70% on a 16" diametre rim on a 215 tyre is going up a fair bit in all directions. Your main concern will probabaly not be if it will fit in the arch bit how much your rolling radius will be out by - more then 2.5=3.0 percent isn't recommended. If it too high your speedo will read wrong and your gearing will be out and you'll find it will drive sluggishly.

Check out the wheel comparrison sites and input your old and new wheel data to see how much off by.

thanks for that surfdaddy, i have checked and they are 8% or 53mm bigger than standard, i have them fitted on my T3 multivan at the moment and they seem ok, a bit more box stirring than standard, and the same 8% difference, i was just thinking that i'll remove them from my T3 to sell it (to lower the price), then fit to the T4 syncro when i get it , i'm sure i've seen others on here running similar wheel/tyre set ups, i was more concerned about the ET being too low, as standard vw whheels seem to be between 35 and 54, depending on the wheels fitted
