T4 Post Icon Low emission zone in Birmingham

After being reliably informed (and doing a chunk of research myself) it seems pretty set in stone that Birmingham and some other cities are getting a Low Emission Zone. Assuming it is the same as London's, what does that mean for a T4 owner such as myself?
I was in London a few weeks ago and saw a couple of T4's about, so there must be a way of still driving around without having to fork out ~10 a day. I'm hoping!
Does anyone know anything else about this? Am I going to have to get rid of the van in 2018?

London LEZ is 100 a day if you are not compliant, or exempt

Ouch!! That's way worse than my guess!

So it begs the question, how do people within the LEZ still run these old vans?

There are lots of different catagories, so it really just depends exactly what you have got. For small companies driving older vans, it put many of them out of business.

I see the study and outline proposals in Birmingham will exclude passenger cars, so an early Caravelle or Multivan would be OK, even though it could have the same engine (and emissions) as an equivalent Transporter.

They're looking to introduce the same in Glasgow in 2018. 20 per day for non-compliant vehicles. This will nclude private cars eventually in a phased manner.

Re. the London LEZ. The DVLA changed my V5 from minibus to MPV. And my 20 year and almost 250k mile Multivan is still exempt.
Campers are too so that is probably the route most have taken.

You don't have to grow up. You just need a bigger bike.

Its all such a load of croc. If they were that bothered about peoples health they would just ban so such vehicles in the LEZ. Oh but if you give us enough money we will let you pollute as much as you want. Sorry rant over

I completely agree though, it's a tax on older vehicles and has nothing to do with emmisions. A Lamborghini aventador can drive into London but a van can't. Emissions dont even come into it!
