T4 Post Icon problem with using veggie oil

I have a 03 2.5tdi and thought i,d dabble in the veggie oil, this morning i stuck 25 litres into a whole tank of diesel, all was fine for about 20 minutes when on the M6 going up hills it seemed to struggle as if the turbo wasnt spooling up reaching the tops of hills no more than 45mph,can someone on here tell me what i have done wrong, the engine feels different somehow and afraid i,ve knackered it

The detergent properties of veggie oil can sometimes mean that it strips all the crud out of your fuel system, hence the reason for a filter change after a few hundred miles of use. You may have fallen foul of that.

However, there are also suggestions that the increased pressure in the fuel system of the 2.5s makes pushing the more viscous (at least when cold) oil through a potential problem causer.

My best amateur guess?

It's some cack in the tank that's found it's way into the fuel pump / injectors and it just needs cleaning through.......

i read a couple of years back that it was not advisable to run a 2.5 on veg oil, recently i have read of people running on bio diesel trouble free,i will stay away from it as a friend was running an old escort van on veg oil a couple of years ago,was fine until we had a freeze of -10 and it froze solid in the pump

doesnt help you i know

i havent changed the fuel filter for over a year,so will run the tank down then change filter, after this start to using veggie oil i dont think i,ll be going back to it, to much hassle and didnt enjoy the drive today like i normally do,,,,,,felt like it was fuel starvation going up the hills.Cant say i,m keen on changing filter as mine has some extra abs braking system directly over the top of it,and have to take my light out to get to it

If you have a 2.5tdi you need (it's a good idea with the others as well) a heated fuel system and 2 tanks (one for diesel and one for veg) to run veg safely.

You need to start the van and get it up to temp on diesel and at the end of your journey, flush the system and stop it on diesel. I have a 2.5tdi running a 2 tank system with no ill effects. Seen plenty of dead cars from people just chucking veg in the tank with the diesel. Especially below 10C!...even tough engines like a m-tdi disco will die quickly if you feed them cold veg!
