T4 Post Icon Intro & alternator

Hi everybody,
Just discovered VWT4forum so I registered at once.
I live in Paris and own a 1997 T4 Caravelle ACV engine (102 HP, 2.5 TDI)
Have to replace the alternator.
Looking for the process and the mistakes to avoid...
Thanks.
Have a nice day
Pieter

Bonjour Pieter (OK, that's the extent of my French)

Welcome

Have you seen this post about the regulator and brushes, I did this job on my 2.5 AJT 88, can be done in situe with the belly pan off, a little fiddly but quite doable.
I had the warning light on, battery going flat symptoms.

I havent changed an alternator though, sorry

Chris

Thanks Chris,

Yes I saw the video about the replacement of regulator and brushes.

Actually, the problem seems to come from a leak of gas oil in the alternator as the small pipe for the fuel return just above the alt got loose a short while ago. It has been fixed but too late to avoid the leak to occur...!

As the alternator is almost 20 years old and ran 370000 km, I prefer to replace it. The price on the web is not so high (170 online for a Bosh original instead of 610 for the same one at the local VW dealer).

Waiting for delivery at the moment !

Pieter
