Hi all,

Thought i would put this on here before i do eBay and other places:

Van
2005 Kombi
2.5L diesel. 6 speed gearbox. 174bhp
Twin sliding door
Cruise control
Heated airbag captain seats with armrest and covers
Air conditioning
Rear parking sensors
Heated, electric, folding mirrors
Front fog lights and headlight washers
Roof bars
(genuine kombi, so no commercial vehicle speed limits)
Factory fitted rear heater. This is fed by the engine coolant, so not standalone and only operates when the van is running. Allows the rear of the van to get really warm however and works really well.
Diesel powered pre heater, that works automatically when the temperature is below 7 degrees. The heater heats the engine coolant so the van gets up to temperature very quickly in the winter.
Factory fitted captains seats with armrests, with airbags and are heated (very nice in the winter). RIB swivels to both seats, so they can turn around and face the rear when parked up.
Drivers seat has a waterproof cover (compatible with airbags) fitted. Will come with the van. Both seats clean and tidy.
Only 1 other owner from me, so 2 owners to date (one being me). The guy before me was a policeman from London who used the van for camping in Greece. It has never been owned or used for commercial purposes.
I bought this in late December 2014. It had 126k miles when I bought it. Current mileage is approximately 137k. During my ownership it has been used for a couple of long camping trips, some shorter ones, and general social outings. It’s been a second vehicle and part of the reason I’m selling is lack of use.
MOT until 22nd of March 2018, but happy to put it through for a fresh ticket if i get the asking price.

Exterior
Generally I haven’t done much externally since I’ve owned it. I have however fitted roof bars (roof box available at extra cost), and clear side indicators.
I always meant to lower it a bit on some alloys, but never got around to it.
It has been cleaned regularly with various Autoglym products. Paint work is good, but with a few age related marks and dinks. There are some hairline scratches on the drivers door but nothing out of the ordinary. Scuff on the front offside bumper (nothing on paintwork)

Good commercial tyres all round.

Interior
Caravelle rear sliding seat/bed conversion, completed by Colin at Oxford T5. I have the insurance certificate. Fitted with all genuine fixings. Caravelle carpet floor has been fitted, along with the correct side steps. It looks very factory as the van is a twin sliding door. 4 sliding rails fitted so you can add extra seats or the table if you wish. I have 3 headrests and the storage trays that go under the seat.
Sound deadened and insulated by matting and foam from Classic Acoustics. Installed within doors, walls and roof. Including a complete strip of the front cab floor area and sound deadening. Caravelle floor is insulated and sound deadened also.
Fully carpeted. Cloth headlining in the rear to match the front cab.
LED ceiling lights, with switches in the side panel. CBE switches and sockets used throughout. The rear lighting is switched front and rear, and works from the door switches, but can be overridden and used when the doors are closed.
240v hook up, with socket located on the bulkhead under the bonnet. This is very neat. Arctic cable routed through the bulkhead, under the cab floor and under the driver’s seat. Main voltage fuse box located vertically under the seat. All fuses can be reached easily. This feeds a 12v leisure battery charger (correct intelligent charger, not cheap trickle charger etc). CBE switched spur wired in behind the drivers seat so charger can be switched off if required. Intelligent voltage sensing relay installed under the passenger seat. Leisure battery fitted under the passenger seat, with 12v fuse box located in front, so all fuses can be reached easily. 240v sockets located on the backs of the front seat bases, and to the rear of the van, along with 12v sockets fed from the leisure battery. 12v feed from the leisure battery is routed under the cab floor and up under the dash to the glove box. Spare wiring is included for any future installations (I was going to do foot well lights etc). There is a 12v socket located in the glovebox. I have fitted a small LED light in the glove box, which turns on when you open it.
When on hook up, both the starter and leisure battery are charged.
Double din Pioneer radio, with aux in and usb in. I have mounted the connection for this in the glove box, together with a door activated switch. This looks very neat and doesn’t reduce the glovebox space by much. The radio has a switch on the dash to swap between car battery powered (switches off with the ignition) and leisure battery powered.
USB and 12v sockets in the rear of the van, also voltmeter for the leisure battery.
Additional front cab door rubber fitted, which helps reduce road noise and drafts. These are fitted as standard to caravelles, but not panel vans usually.
Comes with a rear table bracket. I haven’t got around to making a top for it, but the bracket is fixed in the van so you can either buy one, or make one of your own.

Servicing
Unfortunately when I bought the van I was promised the service history, but the owner was moving house at the time and said he would send on. This never happened and it came with very little service history. He said the van was serviced by VW during the warranty period, and then by a friend who worked at a VW dealership. I suspect perhaps he didn’t have the paperwork as his friend didn’t produce it. So unfortunately a full history is not provided and you will have to assess the van as it is, and the lack of full service history is reflected in the price.
What I have done during my ownership however:
Full service completed in June 2017. Including replacement of front discs and pads.
2 new front balljoints for the last MOT – did these myself.
I changed the oil when I first got it. Then at least every 12 months since.
I changed the starter battery last winter, so both the starter battery and leisure battery are less than 3 years old.
I have replaced the cup holder in the dash, as this was broken when I bought the van.
I have changed the air filter and pollen filter when I bought it. Also replaced in summer this year when it was serviced.
The van had a faulty oil sensor which was putting a light on the dash every 60 miles. Sensor has been replaced by a VAG specialist and receipt provided.
I have photos and receipts for about 95% of the items I have bought, which will be included in the sale.
When I built this van I always had a family in mind, which is why I went for the caravelle seat with isofix etc. I had romantic dreams of going away camping with our kids. Unfortunately, after a couple of failed camping trips (insects/weather etc), my wife isn’t keen on camping, will not drive it and now we have a baby, there are a million and 1 other things we could do with spending the money on. That being said, I am not in a massive rush to sell as I genuinely think we will use the van more once the baby is here.
Unsure exactly what to ask for it, but feel £11k is a fair price based on high spec, relatively low mileage and compared with what else is on the market. I appreciate it’s an older van, but it’s done and ready to be put to some real work. The caravelle seat is fantastic and this is a reliable, extremely functional family vehicle. I welcome any inspection. If you’re interested, come and take a look, I can talk you through it, we can go for a drive and see what you think.
It’s a comfortable vehicle that eats up miles on a long trip. Perhaps for whatever you wish to throw at it.
Please PM me for more details, photos, or to arrange a viewing. I am based just off the black cat roundabout on the A1. Nearby places include St Neots, Bedford, Sandy etc.
No traders please.
