T4 Post Icon Electric Water Pump.

There's an electric water pump on the front of my van , what does it do and how can i tell if it works.

is there any mods i can do to make the van warm up faster?

like the audi AFN has 3x glow plugs in the heater matrix outlet on the head, does any model of t4 have this ?

thanks.

welcome Chuck, the electric pump is to allow coolant to circulate after you turn off the engine, and thus runs on for a while - you should hear it if the van has had a good run - if not a sensor is faulty

there are preheaters on some models ( FNS wheel well ) which kick in at circa -10c(?)

have you checked the thermostat ? if faulty & open all the time this will allow coolant to circulate before it warms up, taking linger to warm up

I haven't checked the stat yet, i just figured as is was a big engine it would take a while, ive never heard the pump run. will it always run on.

it goes too 1/4 on the temp gauge but only after around 10 miles of flat roads, or faster if under load.

stat was next on my list, its down on power atm to.

thanks

It will not always turn on. On mine, it only comes on in warm weather after working for some time. In high ambient temps [35C & higher] it probably comes on every time & is heard running after the engine is turned off.

You did not say which model you have. My old 1.9TD warmed up a lot quicker than my 2.5TDi. The 2.5TDi take a good few miles to get heat through the system.

Make sure you use red anti freeze not blue when you refill.
