T4 Post Icon Finally started on the Velle

Finally Made a start on the Velle .He/she(not decided yet) is a 1999 2.5 tdi 102 Auto in Dragon green ,full documented history 3 owners.
Good solid honest Bus in need of some TLC as it hadn't been used much in the last year or so ,about 1000 miles in 14 months.

First it was a good wash and clean out and made a to do list , plastics and carpet was especially grimy

Whilst having the rear seats out I noticed the mushroom bolts were a bit corroded from sitting about 1st on my list.
Out with the bolts ,which came out surprisingly easy considering they probably haven't been touched in twenty years ,cleaned them up with a 60 grit flapwheel on a drill then some 2 coats of black hammerite smooth. On the floor a bit of touching up with hammerite rust preventer and a little touching up with dragon green paint. The wee paper gaskets that go between the washer and carpet I made from grease proof paper. then just a bolt back together job.

Next up some rear led crystal lights. The supplied orange bulbs didn't fit the holder ,an offset pin arrangement rather that horizontal but couldn't seem to source them locally ,so I modified the supplied bulbs by filing down one of the pins fit fine and secure with the one pin but I'll try and source a couple of the proper bulbs.

I also fitted some Vw heritage wind deflectors not heko but good quality ,fit well and reasonable price .
.

The bus is going to have the Wheels refurbed today. I'm keeping the original 15 inch wheels although changing from tws silver to charcoal anthracite and adding 195/70/15 vredestein all season tyres .
These should see me through the winter then hopefully upgrade for the summer.
I've also got new plates and abt surrounds to go on, original Reg number though and a few more bits and bobs to tidy it up a bit .
That's about it for the moment just waiting for the weather to get going on the mechanicals, Full engine and auto box service, Brakes over haul ,suspension overhaul, lowering and some steering tierods and ends for its M.O.T in February busy busy busy.
Apologies for the side ways photos ,I haven't figured it out yet to turn them LOL

1000 miles in 14 months, I don't do much more than that between cambelt changes

Nice to see one looking so original. But with regard to the Votex wheels get them finished in silver again (the style does not lend itself well to other colours); and get some bigger tyres, 215 65 15 sit well on them

Oh and keep up the good work

Thanks Scruffy, but too late wheels already done ,wasn't to sure about the colour change my self but picked it up this morning and think they look quite good against the Dragon green paint .
Still have the wheel studs to strip and paint or get covers though.

Hopefully source a new set of wheels maybe 17s or 18s next year and keep these for the winter wheels that's the reason for the 195s rather than the 205s tyres, I find the skinnier tyres better for the snow.

Smudger, looking good, and looks as though they have been done really well. But will still stick with what are just my own personal thoughts; that silver on the Votex (as we call them) wheels looks best. And I have seen them in a spectrum of colours over the years.

Correct centre caps are very hard to come by, as I am sure you know. Refinishing the wheel bolts is a fairly thankless task, but fortunately VW do supply plastic covers (only work on original style bolts with centre recess). And get a rattle can for that sliding door rail too

Make sure you either coat them or polish well (I use FK1000P .............. 3 layers), to stop the winter doing its worst, no chemical cleaners and carry a good alloy wheel socket (preferably impact) just in case

Got the wheels done at "The Wheel Specialist" Cumbernauld 230 for the full refurb, mount the new tyres etc .Probably get them done cheaper elsewhere but used them numerous times and always pleased with the result.

Wasn't to sure about the change of colour at first but I think the charcoal Anthracite goes well with the green.

Really pleased with the result Scruffy used the guys numerous times and always pleased with the results.
Lots more jobs to do but are they really finished anyway ,its more a case of getting the weather to get on with things outside, I've a long to do list!! .
Thinking the Green on black might be a good colour combination though ,starting to like the contrast.
