T4 Post Icon Hello and thinking of buying my 1st T4

Hello everyone, I am new to this whole scene and want to get my first van. I have seen the one below on ebay, what do you all think? is the price ok? I like the look of it and the mileage seems low.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Are there any members here selling a van?

OWFUCKINMUCH

forgetting the price, my advice to anyone thinking about buying any motorvehicle in the UK is check the dvla's vehicle details..

https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

and the mot history..

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

then look for rust, yes ALL t4's rust

then it's your choice

Rich.

I would say, have a good think about it! 11k is a lot of dosh for an 18 year old vehicle, Im sure you could get a nice T5 for that.

I just spent £300 for welding & mot to get another year on my old T4 girl. Ok, shes 26 years old, so such things are not unexpected. As they rust!!!

Have a good look at the inner & outer sills, take a towel and crawl under. Also the front angled riggers.

Don't be seduced by the looks. Is that engine grunty enough for what you plan. Its had some mods, think about the insurance.

If I had 11k I would buy a small boat !! And sell my old girl...…..

IF it had the AHY, AXG engine (151BHP) maybe.......

Split the price with the seller, and maybe a 1.9 would be OK at that price.
It would have to be TOTALLY rust free (not a chance), and TOTALLY original (it's not) for 11k

OH..and don't forget you will need to buy LEGAL wheels for it....Audi TT are NOT!

If you're "safety conscious", note the lack of airbags.

Strange it's RHD with German "registered" number plates on it!

Run to the hills...and look at something else.

Be fair though, a large chunk of the asking price is Scene Tax.
And presumably also includes a road legal set of numberplates......

Good luck with your search OP

My 2p…

As we are nearer to 2020 than 2019, you have to be blunt.

All T4s are now “old.” The came out of production in 1990. Last batch came out in 2003. That’s an age range of 16 – 29 years!

They are vans. Not luxury cars (well Multivans could be considered luxury). How much would you pay for a van that’s 16 to 29 years old? £11,000?!

They are not old enough to be treated as a “classic” vehicle but too old to keep up (vehicle duty tax is £265/year for 2.5TDi, won’t be permitted in LEZ anymore, and expect more tax in near future for being an old diesel). Rust is the killer in old vehicles, not engines.

If you want to try out “van life” and see how you get on, then by all means, get a banger (rusty and lots of DIY conversion) to see whether you like it or not, and then invest big on a proper van that you know exactly what you want.

Otherwise, look at T5 if VW badge is a must, or other vans (like Bongo, Vivaro, Transit) for more bang for your money.

Good luck with your search!
