T4 Post Icon Advice sought - van choice!

Hi all

I'm looking for my first T4 and have my eye on a couple. I was hoping someone could give me some experienced advice to help the choosing process.

First: 2001 LWB 1.9 TD
Pros - very smart, little or no rust, not ancient
Cons - possibly underpowered (?), more expensive (5000)

Second: 1992 SWB 2.5 petrol Caravelle
Pros - still quite smart, reconditioned engine, leisure battery/split charge already in place, rear seats + bed, cheaper (3500 - 4000)
Cons - significantly older, rust bubbles on front wheel arches

Any advice and experience would be greatly appreciated

Tom

Good advice indeed....

I'd go for the 2.5 (but I would, wouldn't I!) ... but wait till you find one at a good price with everything you want.
They ARE out there, no point in rushing and be prepared to travel the length of the country to buy the 'perfect' one for you.

We travelled over 200 miles for our van. One to see it, then again to buy it.

Do they sound too expensive for what they are then?

As most of these vans are getting a bit long in the tooth , I would tend to look for one that has not been fully converted , if you are faced with bodywork issues , it will involve stripping it completely to resolve it ...Best have a solid base that you know ..??
