T4 Post Icon Centre caps dont fit ?

So got myself a set of winter wheels a few months back and thought i would change the centre caps as they were a bit tatty.
Bloke i got the wheels off said he had just swapped the caps over with his Touran. So went on Ebay and got a set and just my luck they dont fit ?
They look the same as the old ones but they just wont snap over the lip on the wheel ? Have i bought a dodgy set or just the wrong ones ?

Look the same in the photos, so they should fit

Is the problem that they don't sit all the way in? Do you know if they fit ok when the wheel is off the van and loose?

I had a problem with a set of wheel caps from some MG Wheels that would not go fully back on those same wheels when the wheels were mounted on the new car (a Suzuki) I fitted them to - issue was the very end was fouling on the hub centre - Trimmed back the cap a few mm and they were fine.

Actually, looking closer, they do look a bit different (could be dirt or a reflection though?)

The top cap seems to have a slight proud lip on which the lugs are then sitting on, which the lower one does not? (which if that was the case, would make the lugs longer, so tie up with possible problem noted above)

Yep you're right .. looked at them a bit closer and the lip which clips on the wheel is slightly bigger on one set.How do I go about ordering the correct set so the same doesn't happen again ?

Have you actually measured the distance between the lugs end to end on both?

If that distance is the same, I would have expected the ones with the lip to have a problem if that lip was a factor. Without the lip there is just air and nothing to interfere, so I still think the issue could be as I described? Fouling the wheel hub centre.

BTW, what is the fitting size you bought? I am after a set of centres similar to this myself

Cut the lugs off, and stick them on with Sikaflex.

Do vw centre caps not have an inner circular spring to keep the lugs extended?

All sorted !
Put the caps on a Lathe .. modifyed a parting off tool to a point.
And just reduced the length of the lug .. they all fit a treat now
