Turbo spooling

After having a problem with my van smoking on start up, its had a new air mass sensor, all pipes checked, timing checked, new filters etc and now is fine. But the problem l have is the turbo used to spool in at about 1900rpm now it comes in at about 2200 rpm so even though the van runs better it takes an age to get it to respond, even worse up a hill as when you change gear the revs drop and you have to keep dropping gear to keep the revs up. Is there any way to make the turbo come in quicker, be gentle as l,m not that technical just need some ideas, thanks in advance.
