T4 2.8 VR6 automatic transmission in limp mode

I own a very nice T4 2.8 VR6 auto (R Reg) Caravelle Remio Camper Van but I am having problems with its automatic transmission. The automatic transmission works fine when the vehicle is first started and continues to work as normal under normal driving conditions for an average of about 30 to 40 miles. After 30 to 40 miles however the automatic transmission drops into limp mode. The same symptom occurs when the vehicle is driven up an extended gradient for some miles. The limp mode resets if I stop and I let the van rest for 5 or 6 minutes or so but returns after a further 5 or 6 miles or so after restarting my journey. It would seem that the fault is somehow related to the temperature of the transmission? I have had recently had a reconditioned torque converter fitted by a reputable specialist automatic transmission rebuilder. What steps are recommended in diagnosing and helping me to pinpoint the cause of the fault before starting the wholesale exchange of components (sensors, engine ECU etc)? Thanking you in advance.

I believe that if you search the site you will find recommendations for the addition of an oil cooler to your auto box.
You will probably also see comments about the use of the correct oil as the incorrect one damages the auto box. Trust your specialist is up to speed there.

Use Googles site search by putting the following in the search box. Auto box site:www.vwt4forum.co.uk and adjust "auto box" for phrase(s) of your choice

Guess if you check the fluid, you'll find it's RED......equals WRONG!

"Reputable specialist automatic transmission rebuilder" does NOT mean they know anything about the delicate T4 auto box.

I only know of ONE in the UK I would trust...I guess it's similar on most countries.
