It's not the delay in the prize, it's the lack of communication from both parties which is annoying

Yeah it is. It just annoys you when they say to contact them and they don't have the courtesy to contact you back.

That was back in August when I won in issue 15 . Another forum member has since also won the competition and is also still waiting for his prize. Be aware don't bother entering the competition because you won't get the prize you enter to win
Hi

I'm sorry you have not received your prize, we do not hold the prizes our self especially the photo comp prize as the steering wheel is a prize but they do offer the winner other stuff as well so they get a choice. Once a winner has been chosen we contact the supplier giving them the winners details and then they sort the prize out. Now if this is not happening something needs to change!

Can you please email me your details to [email protected] and if you can let me know the name of the other forum member and I will also contact them.

I will PM you this message as well

Jimmer

In a way, I agree with doulsey, I find all these mags pretty similar.

I have tried to put my finger on exactly what it is I like to read about : ...... something we all have in common, something exciting about owning a VDub camper, especially if like me you are new to the whole scene, reading about people`s adventures away and just enjoying the whole freedom "can go anywhere and anytime" attitude.... and it clicked..... I like to read about how people go away and enjoy their van, people with vans they meet, fotos of meets and the pics of vans on the campsites, sharing their ideas, STANDARD rides used DAILY and hints and tips on PRACTICAL things they`ve done to their vans to make there experiences more comfortable. This mag does not exist! lol!

You can, as doulsey says, only really get all this from a superb forum like this!

I`m fed up of reading about blinged up vans, taking MONTHS of work to complete, vans that look stunning..... but you would never use properly! There`s no way you would cook in these things, get a speck of dirt in these things or go for weekends camping/ beer festivals/ concerts in them. The diamond-shaped hand-stitched seats and rock and roll bed burgandy or egg-shell blue leather and shag-pile carpets....you daren`t lie down and make a bed in these in case you scuff the leather, surely! Don`t get me wrong, I have the upmost respect for the workmanship and time these people put into their vans, but I would be too scared to leave it parked anywhere! Highly nickable-looking vans with mega paint-jobs, massive rims and all chromed up!

With the upmost of respect, I just wonder if these mags are all just about loving a van and just showing what you can do, and being proud (and rightly so!) of the end product of months of modifications? If so, maybe just do up a Renault Traffic, Mercedes Sprinter or a Ford Transit? Are you really "getting" the VW Bus heritage and pedigree and freedom lifestyle-thing?

Every mag, be it BMW, Audi, Classic American, Tractor! etc seem to go by the same format, loads of advert and insurance pages, cars and vans sooooo concours condition I`d be too scared to use or park up, rides well out of reach financially and realistically of everyday people, with one page of readers rides

I appreciate these vans are showing what can be done to them, the owners should be very proud of what can be achieved, but not everyone has the time or money or inclination to do this.

Take away the endless pages of adverts and in-your-face blinged vehicles, and your left with about three pages of readers rides, people going away for the odd weekend and their adventures and people sharing their experiences and enjoying the whole "freedom" thing But nearly 4.00 is a lot for three pages!

Hope no one was offended by this post, meant no harm guys

Ritchie

In another featured T4 article this month is states that a standard van started out as a 2001 T4 Transporter 800 Special 1.9tdi?

I wasn't aware that such a 'standard' van existed? T4's in standard diesel form came as 1.9d, 1.9td, 2.4d and 2.5Tdi.
Also one thing I read allot is the use of Tdi - that isn't a VW thing, it's a Range Rover thing!

On VW's it's all capitals D, TD or TDI

Just about to give up on the mag myself, same old same old really

Page upon page of the same adverts, features of peeps finished vans (yes they are lovely) but I'd prefer more hands on articles like "How to lower your bus" then info on how it affects the handling once done etc...loads of stuff could be looked at Banding, S/S exhausts, fitting night heating (safety), light upgrades (internal & external), old seats to new seats..... list goes on and on

Must admit... Having a online subscription I've got massively bored with the mag. Not even opened the last 5 issues.

I agree with everything in this post! At the VW specialist I take my van to in Telford I see loads of other T4's T25's T5's etc and apart from maybe one or two all the vans have signs of everyday use and are nowhere near the standard you see in the VW Bus magazine. I do wonder as well why the vans they feature seem to be so blinged up and often in very bad taste. There was even a T4 featured a few months back that had a flamed paint job...it was hideous!! IMHO I should add.

I would imagine that most of the vans on this forum are well used, some with dents and rusty bits and not the concours examples they feature every month in the magazine. I mean I can't even get my head around how much some of these guys (and gals) spend on their vans to get them so immaculate and to keep them that way? A top respray is going to leave no change out of 2500; then the wheels/tyres, rock n roll bed, pop top, lush interiors etc, etc. Do these people not have a life outside of their van? I.e. a girlfriend; a wife; a mortgage to pay; a business to run; other hobbies?

Plus there is so much focus on what the vans look like and not how they drive? I mean there was a guy who had a 1.9d and lavished 1000's on it making it look like a surf shack (on the inside). Surely he would have been better served to have spent the half the money on a 1.9 TDi conversion?

Anyway each to their own, but I hope the guys who produce this magazine read this thread!!

Could be a great magazine, however for now it is merely a very average one (IMHO)
