Hope the new owner has some fun!!

Seeing as the blade 4.9m / widow maker has a bad asss reputation, who has been spanked and by which kite!

I'll start with not my 4.9 but my 2m little devil in some horrible gusty wind, kite collapsed in a lull then before I could react powered up again and I supermaned it down the beach quite spectacularly. Of course I meant to make that jump, I just left the landboard miles behind. No damage done and lesson learnt!

After I sold my stackers, was advised to buy a 5.3m Peter Lynn viper as it's a good stable buggy kite.

So first stupid windy day finds me & son no.2 down the park,so decided to launch the kite same way I used to launch the stackers, ie wind at your back kite straight up the middle

When I eventually hit terra firma I was a little shook upand son no.2 was in hysterics although he told his mum a little later he was a bit scared. So after a quick pants change I was on the phone to book me some lessons,& what kite was I given for my first lesson a blade 4.9m...

Ahh the classic downwind launch, been there done that. Always good fun

First kite I flew was a blade 2 4.9. I say flew... I just stood underneath arms aloft with the kite at the Zenith, too scared to move it an inch! I had just seen it launch my mate into the sand dunes on Saunton beach Now that was funny

As said earlier, I have the blade II 4.9, and it has showed me who is boss on quite a few occassions, but the most memorable was my mates blade 3.3. Ridicously windy day and me being me, taking the urine out of him for not putting it up, he calmly turned to me and said 'you fly it then', so I did.....

I launched it, straight up to the zenith, got my composure after realising that I was about 20 feet from where I started, turned into wind and I went skywards about ten feet, the power line snapped, and dropped me back to earth with an almighty thud.

My mate was in a snotty heap laughing like a wild banshee!!

I think truthfully, that the Blades have always been a good kite. They do tend to deliver power a bit harshly and probably have a narrower wind range than many. Provided you are aware of this they can be tonnes of fun. As I said earlier, you cannot relax and take yours eye off 'em though.
I have had my 3.3 on 25m lines since day one, well summer 2000 anyway. A couple of heavier mates had 4.9s and I found them too much in anything over about 12 knts. One of my mates had a 7.0 (?) which was ok,ish in light winds, but was slow and ponderous in comparison with the 3.3 or 4.9 and I always felt that if there was enough wind to fly it, either of the small kites would go just as easily, and would fly faster and under more control, if not giving quite as much raw " grunt", just that they would react and turn faster.
I don't suppose I will ever own another powerkite and will continue to use by old Blade, either as a standalone kite , or maybe with my snowboard. The buggy went ages ago, as it was just another bit of kit which I carted about, but didn't use as often as maybe I 'd like. Although I may look at something specifically for snowkiting , if we get enough chance to get out and give it a go again this winter.

I had the parastorm mk1. (Long gone and no replacement)

Loved that buggy, best days were had on the massive french beaches near Calais. Cruised for bloomin miles using the 10m Frenzy, kept up quite well with the race boy buggies although scary at times because of the lift from my massive kite! Left my seat a few times and not intentionally. Lots of sideways traveling
