Driving home today and I couldn't get above 60mph (had no power) - then the engine light came on.
I got home and scanned it and it says the EGR valve is the fault.

other than a remap is there a way of restoring power without replacing the valve?

My OH removed the EGR valve on his old Bora. He had all sorts of other problems but still the thing kept going into limp mode. He cleaned it and put it back on but no improvement. In the end he removed the valve completely. Says it is much, much better. When he took it off to clean it it was very clogged up. When he took it off the second time he found the little butterfly type switch was sticking. He thought it had been cacked up for so long it caused corrosion around that so decided he'd just remove it.

He's taken the EGR valve off my van completely and I can't see I've noticed anything particularly different but then I've hardly used the van lately.

It sounds to me that once they start playing up just remove them if you can.
