Recently I discovered that towards the back of the pop top (made by Skyline), the paint (or the material it was used) is flaking (see image below). The wooden frame of pop top seems to be exposed.
Anyone know what is the cause of this? What is this paint? Can it be repaired?
Apologies if raised previously.
I'd be grateful for advice on which roof manufacturers provide a hatch cover that closes the space above the driver and passenger (like the sliding hatch in the California). It looks so much neater.
I know SCA do but struggling to find any others.
Hi everyone. Just looking through for inspiration on what to look for in buying a T5 , this will be my 1st van.
So far I've found threads on the common rust spots-Doors, front wheel arch etc, the odd power steering leak and noises on full lock.
I will be looking at ready converted - pop up roof...
I’ve go a T5 conversion, about 6-7 years old (I didn’t do the conversion). I’m pretty new to attempting any maintenance, but ok with straightforward jobs. We have a pop up roof. The nuts and bolts holding the pop up mechanism are showing signs of wear and tear and seem to be a collection of...
I just wanted to start this thread as I have been looking to put a pop top on my van and saw and advert for Creative Vdub with a very competitive quote. Very new company so very hard to find anything out about it, but after a bit of searching I found that it used to be called Explorer and there...
Has anybody used a pop top insulation wrap? Do they do the job i.e. keep the top sleeping area warmer?
Are there any downsides?
Can they be kept on or do they need to be removed before putting the roof back down?T:

What do you recommend for the mattress pad in the pop top?
I've been in to our converters and had a measure of the sleeping platform and it looks about 112 cm wide by 180 cm long with a gap with the roof...

I'm about to start on my van conversion and I'm not sure if I need a pop top, I'm going to use the van for trips across Europe. It's just going to be me travelling so do I need it? My Last van T4 didn't have one and it never bothered me, is it an extravagance I don't need? Pro's and cons please.:*
Hello beautiful campers, are of you converters DIYers? I'm considering doing my van on a budget since i'm not that flush! Also my head is fried with ideas and order to do these things and the budget is running away by the second!!
I've put key questions in CAPITALS below.
Hi there. Looking at converting a lwb with kitchen at rear and tailgate. Is a conventional front to back pop up best ? Or a sideways pop up? If going for sideways , can it incorporate an upstairs bed? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks::eek:
I have recently upgraded from a '92 T4 westfalia to a 2003 model and one of the things I was looking forward to was being able to lift the roof a bit more easily with the gas struts. A bit surprised and disappointed that it was still a bit of a heave to get it started and the roof seems to lean...
I got hold of my first T4 back in April. A 1994 2.4D Caravelle.
Jamaican Aqua Blue, Lovely looking clean van. 166K on the clock, complete engine rebuild at 164k.
She sounds good, She runs good, She looks good.
I am starting to convert the van into a more comfy wagon for the family...
Hi, has anyone tried a Khyam Kamper Kosi or Vanorak cover for a pop-top roof? I think they look pretty good for keeping the van a bit warmer when the roof is up. The Khyam version at £200 looks good, but it appears to be designed specifically to fit a California, so i'm wondering how well it...
As the thread title really. Who does the slimmest pop tops for a SWB T4. I've seen pics for a few that look like an upside down planter plonked on top which I think does the van no justice. I don't mind what it looks like when it's up only when it's down in the driving position.
I'm new to this and about to start on the conversion of my 2010 Stone Blue T5. I've narrowed my roof choice down to either Reimo or HiLo but at this stage feel like going with the reliability and tested nature of Reimo. I'm now looking for the right place to do the work. I'm based in...
My van has just failed the MOT and its going to cost about £1000 to fix it all. I'm wondering how much it will cost to do a conversion from scratch. I love my Caravelle..H reg but its got so rusty now and what with the mot is it throwing money at it that would be better off spending else where...
