Hello there,
I have a 2007 1.9 84 bhp t5 with 65k on the clock and would like a little help please,
The van used to start first turn of the key every time, but about 6 months ago it started taking longer to start. But only every so often. It can take 5,6,7 times to turn over before it starts but like I say it is only every so often. It can happen any time hot, cold no matter how long I have been driving for or how long it's left. Once it is running there isn't any problems whatsoever!
I took at to a reputable local garage and they plugged it in to the diagnostics and it came up with crankshaft position sensor, this was then replaced but still had the problem, then it said the camshaft position sensor, again replaced but still there. It then said that the glow plugs needed replacing so again this was done and still the starting issue!!!
I really have no idea what it could be and am planning on getting a pendle remap soon but want this problem fixed first really.
Anyone have any idea what it could be?
Thanks in advance.
Chris.

Chris,

Its usually the top cam sensor thats at fault, and what some people do is fit non genuine sensors and still have same fault if not worse... Always fit GENUINE VW parts and problem will be gone!!!

Hi Martin, I'm sure the garage I used would have used a genuine part as they always usually do!
The told me it was the "camshaft position sensor" that they changed. Is this the top one that you are talking about?
I have spoken to Kye over in dartford and will be going to see him as soon as I have sorted this problem!
Thanks again.

Yes its the top one, double make sure it was genuine part fitted... Had same issue with another customers vehicle once that had this changed... Also check wiring isn't at fault...

Hi Martin,
I have spoken I the garage an they said a genuine Vw sensor was used.
I have just had a look at the engine this morning and noticed a load of gunk around the egr seal. Would a messy or blocked egr have anything to do with the starting issues?
I will get some new seals and give it a clean out and see if it helps. Thanks for your help.

Hi, my T5 1.9 has just started doing the same thing, had the cam shaft sensor replaced (when it came out it was corroded) but it's still showing a fault, looking at getting the crankshaft sensor done next. Can you tell me if you solved your problem and if so how?
Thanks
Steve
