hI. Im doin a tdi conversion using a 1z. Is there any reason for not using the golf pas set up as its easier to tension or is there somthing i am not seeing??

I think the reason is that the golf pump sits too low and you'd be in danger of losing it on speed bumps, but I stand to be corrected.

no reason at all mate....people just choice the abl set up due to most prob having renewed these parts on there so no the history..

I left my PAS pump on 1z engine as it was originally on the Audi A4 1996.
It is indeed the lowest component in the engine bay now, but I fail to see it knocked off by ANY speed bumps (unless I drop the van by at least 250mm).
As I am working on the van right now, I can crawl underneath it (and under the PAS pump) without touching anything.

Have you EVER seen a speed bump fatter than me!?
I don't think so.

INTERESTING. i HAVE REFURBED THE ABL PUMP AND MOUNT BUT NOT KEEN ON HOW THE BELT TENSION WORKS OR LACK OF IT , BUT ON THE 1Z SETUP ITS PROPERLY TENSIONABLE. THE ONLY OTHER THING IS , IS THAT I HAVE USED THE ABL ALTERNATOR AND MOUNT SO DONT THINK ITS POSSIBLE TO MOUNT THE 1Z PUMP ASSEMBLEY.
